Does anyone know if Carquest parts, now found at Advance Auto (because Advance recently acquired Carquest) are re-packaged AC Delco parts...........or? We might as well also get into what NAPA parts are and Autozone and O'Reilly's etc.
None of those places are manufacturers. The manufacturors, Standard Ignition for example, package the items for the different retailors but the part number will be very similar, sometimes they will just add some letters to the front of the original part number to make it 'theirs'.
AC-Delco is a brand now, and gets parts packaged with their name on them, from the same companies that CarQuest gets parts from with their name on them. At least that's my understanding of how it works. I could easily be wrong. OEM parts aren't what they used to be.
You really cant tell whose parts are in the box..When I would do a "Change over" we would just re-box the customers stock,,Now he is selling our brand,,,Its done quite often in the auto parts business,,,just one of the things that a mfg rep had to do from time to time..my company would send us all new empty boxes,of course with our mfg company name on them,,
if you want AC Delco ignition parts O'Reilly should be able to get them ,some are stocked in our store...or maybe can get from the DC
It's called Private Labeling. If squirrel, for instance, wants to go to market with his favorite SBC camshaft he could contact one of the leading independent camshaft manufacturers in the US and have them Private Label the SQUIRREL brand 350 hp/327 hydraulic cam. Such companies - maybe only one or two left now - also supply volume production direct to some of the auto and truck OEM's and high volume cams to the high performance guys - like Isky and Comp Cams and others. Sorry Squirrel, just couldn't resist.....
My brother wanted to get some good points for his 58 Chevy wagon, so he bought a few sets of NOS Delco points on ebay. You have to lightly burnish them because they oxidize sitting on the shelf for 20+ years. I was looking in my collection of junk for some spark plugs, I found that I had 4 (half a set) of the ones I needed, 25+ year old AC plugs, you can tell they're old because they have the green rings on the insulator, which ended around 1990.
