I read this article about racing in Salinas on the Mid 1940's in this weekend's local paper.. anybody got any history? stories? pics? http://www.californianonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008802020319 <img src=http://cmsimg.thecalifornian.com/apps/pbcsi.dll/bilde?Site=J2&Date=20080202&Category=LIFESTYLE&ArtNo=802020319&Ref=V2&Profile=1024&MaxW=600&Q=80> Thanks! -Juan
Surprisingly, there's nary a mention of Salinas in Don Radbruch's two volume set: Roaring Roadsters. That's in spite of significant coverage of the Central Cal scene in the late '40s/early '50s. Stockton, Lompoc, Porterville, Santa Maria (fairgrounds), Buellton are all mentioned. It may have to do with the sources: Just about everything in the two books was provided by volunteer contibutors so if nobody from Salinas knew about the production of the books no info would have been submitted. Too bad because the cars appear to be "state of the art" c.1950.
Thanks! RodP here on the board has shown me some old pictures from the Salinas Dragstrip, and I've seen a few from Andy Southards books but I don't remember seeing much from Carr Lake.. anybody else have more info? -Juan
