  3. here is one on the small front; an HO LSR car built for a '70s Auto World mail in contest. The company went out of business before calling for the entries to be sent in. I have never run it. Rules were pretty loose, 3/4" dia wheels max, use "a" then new Aurora can style chassis/motor. They didn't say you couldn't use two motors! I think the contest was to promote the new slot car motor.

That's how Clessie Cummins put the first diesel engine in a Packard automobile. The engine was so big and heavy it was easier to lift up the car and sit it around the engine-except he put the engine in the front where it's supposed to go.

I got to see (and hear) the truck at LSRU! I can't imagine what it's like to drive. What an amazing project!

^^^ Ohhhhh....the "Beast of Turin".....what a great car! Love that 'start up'....freakin' spectacular! I believe there were 2 of these built circa 1911....I'm not sure what happened to the other one. I seem to remember it took something like 12 years to get this car into the present condition.:D:D:D

Yea, but you copped the idea of two motors driving the crown from opposite sides from a slot car that was in a magazine in the mid sixties, didn't you? Because I have that magazine somewhere;).

  17. I have all those great 60s mags with model car and slot car articles too. The 6 or so Rod & Custom Models magazines are hands down the best model building publications ever produced. I don't recall whether I was influenced by one of those articles or not, don't remember it if I was. I do remember trying to figure out how to get more power into the model and some way to mesh the two Aurora chassis together to do the deed. I'm sure I was influenced by the full sized dual engine dragsters of the era. All the full sized multi engine cars in this thread built on each other's ideas. All 'new' ideas draw from the past. Like they say, there is nothing new under the sun.

I know I saw it in one of those mags, but I will be damned if I can remember what magazine, or what it was on. It stood out in my mind, because I thought it was a really slick way to do it. I will think about it, eventually I will remember where I saw it. And I agree, theres very little truly new under the sun. We are all influenced by stuff we have seen.

  23. Having beers one night with Red Greth, he explained some of the "simple" engineering that went into the Speed Sport roadster(s) - sharp cookies those boys!

A hydroplane team I follow on Facebook uses turbocharged Allison motors for their power plant. They travel with a container with about four spares motors, tuned up, twin turbo, and built for big power. I have no idea where they get them from, but they seem to be fairly plentiful still. I NEED one in my life.....just to sit and stare at, and hug occasionally :(

Wouldn't that rig be overpowered and more of a novelty? Not triple fast (or even double fast?)

    Good call there Bubba.
Original engine under the hood though, an original L-79/350/327 car that came from the factory with column shifted three speed transmission standard, few made out of the 5000 plus built, most opted for the 4speed option.
Here is an old HAMB thread on it from 2011.
