    Curt R,

Thanks for the story that was awesome wish I got to meet him! That roadster got me thinking so I looked up his son on Friday I remembered what town he lived in the day I picked up the truck. It turns out he lives only a couple blocks from my wifes parents. I stopped and talked with him on Saturday for about an hour cool guy, he said he has all his dads pictures of car stuff through the years. He might have some info on the steel roadster I think I might try and track it down, it would be neat to hook it up to the truck and go vintage drag racing with it like Ray did!

  2. All three were inspirational for my builds!

  3. Was this truck eventually painted metalic brown rootbeer, called "Stumpy" and resided in Waukesha?

Not that I'm aware of, possibly after Wayne Walton sold it?

  5. Mark, that's a new story about the infamous Besasie/Brinza/Stimac truck, would be nice if, some one else knows about "Stumpy" or the ownership after Walton. Two years ago, I was told that, the truck still exists somewhere in the Fort Atkinson to Janesville, Wi.area. The guy says he saw the truck in a garage but, wasn't specific about exact location.

This car was most famous in the hands of Ken Adamec, later sold to Karl Kasper, body freshened and repainted by my cousin Bob Stimac, flames added by Butch

Got any more pictures of 72 Detroit Nats?

  9. Thanks John...I posted a few pics of it after Ken built it on page 1 of this thread.....I recall it was shown as "Sunsation" around 1961. It will always be one of my favorite cars, but efforts to share either version of it on the HAMB have yielded far more criticism than praise.... A third version as it stands today....Centurion9

  11. Cool thread. Think I remember seeing that truck behind Waltons.
Something OT, I like to put an end to what I heard years ago about a green AMC Gremlin with a Hemi hanging out on hwy 100 in the 70's. Is that story true?

The only Gremlin I remember that would cruise Hwy 100 or 27th street was a white one with a blue Gremlin X stripe, except it said Gremlin XX. It had a massaged 401 in it. Never heard or saw one with a Hemi

This car may have been called the X-15, and was built by Ray's father, Ray Sr.

  27. Here's a factoid about Ray Besasie:
From the book, "The American Hot Rod" pg. 137,
"In 1941, Ray Besasie...built an exhaust driven supercharger
(he didn't call it a turbo, but that's what it was) complete with new intake and exhaust manifolds that bolted directly to a 1941 Chevrolet six engine.
Besasie was about thirty years ahead of his time."
Could Ray be the Godfather of the Turbocharger?

  28. That was Ray Senior....I worked for Ray Junior at Excalibur Motorcars in the early-Mid 1970's. They also built a pretty wild Custom 65 Mustang Coupe together. I'm still looking for photos of it.....
