Based on my research it is my understanding that Carson Tops were made from a material called Haartz Stayfast canvas. It would appear that they no longer offer this material in white, but rather a color referred to as oyster. Does anyone have any experience using the Haartz Stayfast material or any other material of similar texture. What does the oyster material look like on a black car? Also, what type of material are Carson top builders using nowadays. My goal is to stay period correct on the top and not use a material that does not fit the build. Thanks for the help.
Hartz Stayfast is what I use to make highend boat covers with. It is also a subs***ute for Sonnenland which is top material for Mercedes Benz and other highend cars. Twillfast is another material similar to Hartz Stayfast. Buton my chart, Oyster is only available in Stayfast Hot Rod:2094 Oyster-HR OYT- available with a black or tan backing. 100% Acrylic cloth that's 60 inches wide.
Please post pics when done---I owned 2 four door 51's that I had intended to make into one convert---lost my storage and sold them. It's still a dream..............
