Have a question I have a 1941 Packard 110 coupe the body is complete ruff but all there nothing inside not enough to restore so I am thinking about making a custom .now I'm an old fart with big dreams but I want to try worst case ill sell parts i don't have much in it but I want to do a Carlson chopped top nothing radical . My question is do I need reinforcement when I cut old top off ?? Thanks in advance Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
I moved this to the main board, the Q and A section is for questions about how the board works, also I am pretty sure you mean "carson" top. I changed the ***le for you
Generally speaking, the more strength in the frame for the top the better. That means using steel, and wooden popsicle sticks not so much. Reinforcing the ch***is rails, as per convertibles, is also on the menu. I'm not familiar with that model....... Is the plan to have a single, slightly shorter, gl***, roll-up window on each side?
One thing that'll stick out like a sore thumb on an "ex" coupe-come-'vert, is the back of the w/s posts. On almost all cpe/sdn/etc, the post packs are curved, even a little. The 'verts are straight n flat. & the top of the w/s post bar is also flat, not curved back as iffen it just had the metal top cut off. Well, except for Huson ~ 48->48 +/- . Just a couple of thoughts. Good luck w/the project. Marcus...
