Hey guys. I have a pair of carter afbs. They don't have a carb tag or a stamping on them. One body reads 0-1565 and the other carb body reads 0-1455. Both top pieces read 6-1404. I've attached some pictures. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Can't tell you too much, look at the right front mounting pad, where the stud comes thru to bolt it to the intake and there should be some numbers stamped in there. They don't have an idle speed screw do they, just that large bolt adjacent to the idle richness screws that acts like a controlled vacuum leak - those would have been used on 2 - 4bbl applications. That may not have been the only use for that style.
I believe the units with the large air bleed screw, as shown, were used on the big Olds and Buick engines from the early sixties.
The Carter AFB's were identified a number of different ways. Some units were stamped on edge of flange, some units were stamped center of bowl in rear, some units were stamped along bowl – airhorn seam in front, some units ARE NOT stamped (tag only). The ones which are not stamped can still be identified (there is a charge for this); but it often requires dis***embly of the carburetor to get to other numbers. From the pictures, I would say yours are Pontiac, but more I cannot easily say. Pontiac used approximately 55 different AFB's from 1957 through 1967. These are not factory dual quad carbs. Jon.
