Rebuild kit for the carb (9510S) supplied a ball and weight for the accelerator pump nozzle
but original is one piece. Is one better than the other??
Sure looks to me like there should have been a left and right primary flap. Barrell
on the left slot, will be covered by the flap.
Any info appreciated. 100_1894-2.jpg 100_1895-2.jpg ciated.

If both slots lead to hose connections, one will be ported vac and the other (with notch) full manifold vac.
I like the ball/weight setup. You can drop the ball and weight in and lightly tap the weight with a punch to smooth the seat for the ball. Works well.

For what it’s worth, mine has the ball and weight, and it works great.

The 9510s came from the factory with the pointed needle (17-51).

Unless the carb is being used outside of the normal application (283~307 CID Chevrolet, 290 CID AMC), or an engine with a radical cam, I would use what Carter used.

Not at all unusual to get different from standard parts in aftermarket repair kits.

As for the throttle blades ( flaps ), it looks to me like there should be a left and right one, you have two of the same side.

Both primary throttle valves are 2-185; there is not a "left" and "right". See the explanation by chicken above.

    Thanks everyone.
So after a group intervention, our thought is the hole in the left barrell that is blocked
when the plate is closed, is slowly exposed as you tighten the idle speed screw to increase the fuel
idle mixture into the barrell.. hence idle speed. Kind of a programmable idle control. Sound about right??

No. As per Chickens explanation: The horizontal slot should be closed at idle on one side and open on the other side. They’re for vacuum signal to the dissy. Option of ported and non ported.

This is an Edelbrock but same thing really.

Distributor is strictly mechanical advance, no vacuum though there is a vac line connected on both ports 100_1872.JPG
Guess we'll have to trace where they are going.
