Got a Carter AVS carb;like to find out what it's off,# J2 9635 S,1 11/16 secondaries and 1 7/16 primaries,3 step metering rods, electric choke, fuel inlet on left side, looking at front of carb. This number only seems to apply to the C/S AFB's and this carb is not a C/S unit.Nothing else seems to match up;wandered around various AFB/AVS sites on the internet but no joy.Any info would be great, thanks.
9635 sounds like the numbers that were used when the AFB was reintroduced in the aftermarket in the mid 70s....we bought a 9636 to put on my wife's Dart in the mid 80s. should be a generic 625 cfm carb. edit: some info from the Carb Shop "The second group all have electric chokes and consist of 9400s (400 CFM Chevrolet linkage); 9500s (500 CFM Chevrolet linkage); 9501s (500 CFM Chrysler linkage); 9625s (625 CFM Chevrolet linkage); 9626s (625 CFM Chrysler linkage); and 9627s (625 Ford linkage with kickdown lever). This group of AFBs were released in 1972. The third group is basically a remake of the second group by adding a plugable EGR port and bowl vent (for emissions) and renumbering the carburetor by adding 10 to the number. The 9400s became the 9410s. Similiarly; 9500s became 9510s, 9501s became 9511s, 9625s became 9635s, 9626s became 9636s, and 9627s became 9637s. This group of carburetors was released in 1982."
they used the AFB on Buicks in the mid 60s, but they didn't use the 9635 back then, because the part number didn't come into existence until 1982, apparently... the AFB also showed up on a buncha dodges and some Chevys (including vettes) back in the 60s.
