Hey everyone, About to pull this guy off and give it a deep cleaning after its long slumber in a barn. Its from a 47 or 48 Chevrolet Thriftmaster. Having trouble ID'ing the carb and which rebuild kit i should buy online. Does anyone have any experience with these and might be able to ID it? I attached pics below. If i need to tear it apart to ID it i guess i can do that. I just dont like the idea of starting something and then not finishing it while I wait for parts to come in. Thanks!!

Try mikes carb parts online, he can get you the correct parts for that carb, there are I think 3 different rebuild kits for the w-1
Original 1940s Chevy Carter W-1 was the 574s model. http://old-carburetors.com/Chevy/pages/001-Chevy.htm http://old-carburetors.com/Chevy/pages/002-Chevy.htm http://www.carburetion.com/Products/ProductDetails.aspx?part=AF2001 http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1942_47/4247csm637.htm .
When you get it clean look at the cast iron base, if it has the casting #603 then it is carb #684S; if the casting #432 then it'll be carb #616S 'Fleet Economy Model' Carter was anal about making specific carbs, it could be one of a few others too. I would imagine the basic parts will interchange, just be careful with the spring that holds the metering rod under that big cover. The springs are hard to find.
