I just received a set of Base Gaskets I ordered for My Caddy Dual Qual Set Up ('56 365 W/ 2 WCFB's). Apparently there must have been multiple base configurations, as there is no way I can make these baby's work (very wide base bolt config. vs. much smaller on mine...)

Anyone know of a place I can order small bolt pattern WCFB gaskets without having to order a whole Engine Gasket kit?

I guess I can always just make the damn things if need be, but would rather not...

    Thanks...

PM me your address. I think I have what you need. If they work I will swap them to you for any type or year of calif lic plate for my collection.

  4. If I remember correctly, the last ones I got were at NAPA or CSK. Good Luck!!Davey : [IMG] [IMG]

Any carb shops near you? I needed such a thing for the small base Holley 4bbl manifold I have on my Y block and went to a local carb shop and they had a couple lying around.
If they didn't have any, I would have just tapped one out on the manifold out of gasket mateiral or an old cereal box, using the round side of a ballpeen hammer.

K9, I'll keep that in mind just in case [IMG]

Davey.. Tried NAPA today, they go back to '57, and I am not sure what used the small base WCFB after '56 [IMG]

Deyo... Cereal Box is honestly thick enough to seal? I would try it, but would hate to end up running lean and burning my new pistons...

Anyone actually use something that thin... Experiences???

I'll kick this question out to the masses...

I've never used cereal box, but I've heard of people doing it- maybe not for a carb mounting gasket(?). If you go into your local NAPA, ask them for some gasket material, the stuff I used on my Thermostat housing on my Y block had adhesive on one side.

Or, if they can't find that stuff, ask them to take out a bunch of carb mounting gaskets and check them out for yourself- take them out and touch and look at them. See if you think a cereal box type of cardboard would work after looking at real gaskets.

HOWEVER Don't use RTV on the carb gasket because gasoline is not supposed to be friendly to RTV.

Well, check out NAPA and see what they have. The WILL have that gasket material, if they are worth a shit. Two different styles of gasket material that I have in hand measure 1/32" with my caliper. The Cheerios box I measured is just barely less, it almost touches the 1/32 line. Probably any cardboard that is NOT corrugated (with the ribs and little channels running through it) would work.

I know I've seen some "performance" gaskets for later model carbs that are close to 1/2" thick, but the one that comes in the box with the brand new carb is just cardboard. Unvfortunately, I can't find one of those factory gaskets in my mess of crap.

I've used poster board and cardboard to make gaskets for motorcycles and 4 wheelers...I never had any of them leak or anything...It's usually a last resort, but don't rule it out totally...
