Dave, Coming along nicely. How much did Brinkman's charge for the reflectors? Is that silver plate? How long did they take? I have a pair that need to be done.
Jim, it was $130 for the pair, nicely done silver plating, took about 6 weeks. If you need their info , I have it here somewhere.
You got one cool little roadster going together. Can't wait to see more progress. What kind of tools are you using to do all that rivit work? I love how it looks.
Carter you are my HERO. This is honestly my favorite thread!!! It's like seeing the exact process of putting a '29 back together and then some!!! Everything is looking awesome...even that monster of a blast booth!!! I miss that old cowl so much I picked up a cowl top from Junior at the Invitational just in case I fall into the rest of another 29 hahaha!!!! So are you wanting a columbia or what?
Thanks, gentlemen. JJ send me some pictures of that Columbia. Using a lot of the stuff the Model A suppliers sell for rivet work, some of it modified to work better.
Well, after reading on the Fordbarn about setting body rivets cold, I decided to try it. It works amazingly well. Makes it a lot easier too. Wish I would have tried it weeks ago. Oh, well, live and learn. Curtain pan and seat riser are in, doors are hung. A few more rivets on the seat stiffener and front quarter panel braces, a couple of bolts here and there and it's time to do some patch work.
I love this roadster. I see all kinds of details that none of the other threads have. And RIVETS!! I plan to put some rivets back in my A body as well so I'm curious as to what you do to set yours in cold. That sounds like the way to go..
Wow, can't believe how long it's been since I updated this. Sorry, fellas, life sometimes gets in the way of life. I still don't have my engine back from Mr. Prus. 6-8 weeks has now become 22 weeks and no engine yet. Pretty frustrated by the whole thing. Not sure what my options are at this point. Anyhow, I put a B oil pan, clutch housing, and timing cover on the spare B engine that I bought. It had been in a model a before I got it. I gave a stock b distributor, intake and carb a quick cleanup and threw them on. Got it running and it sounds good, so we'll go with that for now. I did crack my only spare b exhaust manifold in the process, though. Tried to weld it and was horribly unsuccessful. Also realized my engine is mounted just over half an inch too far forward, so I am working on correcting that now. I shot some epoxy primer over the body for now just to protect it until I do body work this winter. Shot some gloss black single stage urethane on the bottom of the body and the firewall. And I guess that about brings it up to current. I have video of starting the engine up for its first time in over 20 years. Just need to figure out how to get it off of my wife's phone and figure out why I look so pissed off in the video. I blame it on a lack of sleep. After getting the body set on it became obvious the headlights were too far forward, so I moved them back a bit. I will get some pictures up later tonight. Ok, well looks like one of the pictures worked. The before I moved the headlights back picture is on my phone, but here is the after. Also got a horn mounted up. I picked it up at an auction a few weeks ago. It is visible just below the rad. shell on the driver's side. I just used a piece of the k-member that got cut out to hang the horn. Passenger rear 3/4 view.
I finally pushed this thing outside for the first time last night and had a good look at it from a distance and from different angles. I've got to say it sits just how I wanted it to and still gets me all excited looking it over. Can't wait to drive this car. Spent most of last night looking for small parts, cleaning up the garage, and beginning the process of shimming the body and getting it bolted down properly. Here I set in the shop reading your build and thinkin I need me one of them roadsters.Well the boss just called the shop and said it's time to call it a nite.I'll be looking for your next up date lookin good. Roger
Thanks, guys, I appreciate the feedback. Not much to report. I decided to blast the tank and prime it after all. During blasting, I found 2 pinholes near the fuel outlet, so, as shitty as that was, I'm glad it happened then and not as a leak when I was driving it. So I patched it up, got some Jenolite on it, and shot the primer tonight. See, what started all of this was, on Monday night, I think, I was trying to get the tank in, and in the process, I tore the cowl welt. So, since I knew I'd either have to order more and wait for it, or wait until Saturday morning to run over to Snyders to grab some, I figured I'd go ahead and get the tank in primer. Also, I put my NOS model B exhaust manifold and Winfield intake on. And I picked up some model b hubcaps for it. I was super stoked about those since I had been looking for a set of original ones for a while. No pictures right now as I'm having trouble with uploading them from my phone again. I'm hoping to get a lot done by the end of the weekend, and hopefully pull it out of the garage under its own power. More to come. Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
I forgot, I also got the floorboards modified to fit around all of those 32 parts hiding under them. They got a coat of wood protectant and are ready to go in. Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
