This is the best Model A build thread I've seen. I'll have to stop thinking about mine and get to it. Thanks.
Hey Carter, looking good My A roadster is almost identical, and I'm maybe a couple of months behind you progress wise. Just dropped the body on the frame for the first mockup Interestingly, the LHD fuel tank I just had blasted today came from you .... I swapped a RHD tank with Stovebolt for it, I believe he got it from you Small world !
Would you be able to post some photos of how the rain gutters go into the boot area? Would be really helpful. If you can some detailed ones of the top and bottom of the side gutter also would be helpful. Aside from that, the car looks awesome!
Thanks, how have you been? Haven't seen ya in a while. Thanks, man. Yes indeed. Thanks, I appreciate it. Now get started on yours! Hey, you making any progress? I'm not sure if I even know what you are working on now. Haha, cool, yeah I sold a tank to Stovebolt a while back. Glad it's going to be put in service. I'll get you some pictures. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App! Small update from yesterday. Installed the battery and hooked it up, checked the starter, checked for spark, shot a dribble of gas in the carb and she fired off for a few seconds. I checked my pile of b fuel pumps, and the only one that pumps fuel is full of dirt and gunk and corrosion, so I need to order a rebuild kit.
Went to my buddy Joe's today and picked up another B fuel pump. Sounds like it could work and looks new inside. Need to hand test it and if it works, I'm in business. Also got a steering wheel and a starter cable in need of repair. Installed the wheel and my light switch/horn rod when I got home, then fixed the starter cable.
Well, I tested the fuel pump and it worked, so i installed that. I decided to switch pedal assemblies because I had a BB brake pedal in there and they are almost an inch taller. I thought it would be ok, but it was bothering me. I also installed a coolant temperature gauge. I filled it with coolant, tightened a couple hose clamps, put some gas in the tank and... It runs!!. The brakes are way loose, need tightened up, the throttle linkage needs adjusted as well and I still have two coolant hose clamps leaking a little, but first drive around the neighborhood is planned for tomorrow afternoon. Check back tomorrow night for video. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
No video yet, waiting for my wife to get done with work. But here's a teaser picture. First rubber these 70 plus year old tires ever got to put down Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
So you get it all put together and get it running and the first thing you do is a burn out? That a boy!!! Waiting for the video
Hahaha, nah, that was pulling back in the driveway after I went around the block. Ok, so this was actually my second drive. My wife was working and I was getting anxious to go for a ride, so I went around the block. This video, I drove up the street and dropped my wife off and she taped it. It was breaking up accelerating, but I only put about half a gallon of gas in it, so I think it was running out. Listen at the end, my wife laughs at me because the car stalled pulling in the lot and I dumped the clutch to bump start it and it just slid. Will get a better video tomorrow. It has several gallons of gas in it now, and I need to figure out if that was the problem.
Success!! Very well done! That lil car looks great cruising down the road Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Carter, the views of this thread show how many have been following it although many dont post, me included, it is one of my favorite builds that I check regularly for updates. That video made me smile and made my day, thanks for taking the time to post the tech and pics, well done fellow HAMBer
Congratulation! Cool little banger! You finished in time for some nice summer-evening rides Enjoy it!
Very nice!!! Would love to see a video of it idling...will give me a good idea what mine will sound like!
Been watching this thread since the get-go. One of my favorite body styles and I believe in the first post you said it would be slow moving? I think you have came a long way in a short time. Looks great and keep up the good work!
btw, upgrade your photobucket! i need the pics of your early progress to see what my body is missing!
Thanks, Ben. Let me know when you get your distributor. Thanks, I don't pay much attention to the post and view numbers, but it's always nice to get some feedback from like minded folks. Thanks, your roadster is looking good as well. Body and paint work will have to wait until this winter on mine. Thank you. It's far from finished, but I will be driving it this summer! I have just such a video for you, will post it. Thanks, man. Well, some things went together pretty quickly, but some stuff seemed to take forever. But it all feels a little more worthwhile right now. Thanks, Zach. If all goes well, I hope to head out your way some time. Thanks, Mark. I did some organizing of some pictures on my photobucket. I'll have to fix the links. So you are working on a 28/9 roadster now? Nice! Here's a little walk around video. My brake light switch is sticking a little and the left small taillight is out, but all in all it was a successful first drive. I think the idle is up a little too high also, but I've got some playing around to do with the Winfield carb to get it all figured out.
WAY TO GO!!!!!! You've done a great job on this and what a great feeling to finally get to make it's maiden pass down the street! It's sounds identical to my roadster when it was running down the street! Gotta love the bangers! I can't wait to see more!!
Congratulations! I've been lurking a long time on this thread and have never posted. Love the banger and how you've kept the build true to the original hot rodder spirit.
Very NICE!!!! Sounds like your idle is a few hundred RPM too high, but otherwise no misses, burps, or belches. Can't wait to hear her when she's all dialed in. Great job!
