I am looking for a 38 Chev truck bell housing. Does anyone know the casting numbers that would be on it?. I know the 37 part#is 838475.casting # 838533 1938 is a different one. Thanks!! Ron..
If it turns out to be this one let me know. Thanks Rod http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=608187
My Chevrolet 1929-1949 Parts Manual lists clutch housing (bell housing) casting number 839257 which fits all 1938-1947 commercial & utility vehicles.
mine came out of a 37 with a 216 and a 3 speed (origonial) (so I'm told) and it has the above mentioned 839257 # on it , f.w.i.w.
If you can not find a 38 to 46 bellhousing I have a 37 fork modified to work with the 38 and up throw out bearing, the 37 bellhousing definately will not work with the 38 and up clutch and linkage as I fought it on my 37.
I am putting a 261 with a t5 trans into my 36 chevy 1/2 ton. I just got an original 37 bell housing (casting # 838533) but I still don't have any clutch linkage parts other than my original 36 gear. My truck is still all together and running stock. I am sending the 261 out to get rebuilt next week. I understand a 38 bell housing is better but i haven't been able to find one yet. If the fork you have will make this 37 housing work i'm definitely interested I know i will have a few gremlins to work out eventually but I can figure them out as I go. Thanks!! Ron..
You will need the 37 pedal to use the 37 fork as it is different then the 38 to 46,I dont think I still have it but can look. I do know of a 37 in a junkyard and can grab the clutch pedal.
I pulled a 216 with tranny out of my 38. Let me know if you still need one. I threw a rod, but tranny had just gotten a new clutch and pressure plate. I would make you a heck of a deal on bell and other parts if ya still need them . I think the pedals, forks and all are still out there. pm me for more info.
