Caught in the act (by the wife) of sneaking one more rat rod

You know how you plan so careful to sneak the next project home without the wife noticing? Well, I thought I had succeeded in getting the 40 Tudor project home and out behind the shop in the South 40. So when I casually waltz into the house for dinner tonight after being gone all day, the wife says to me: "You have about half a dozen calls on the voice recorder from the guy you bought that 40 Ford from this morning, telling you that you are welcome to use his dual axle trailer to pick it up." "RATS! Caught again", I says to myself as the wife holds out her hand.... You see I once made the mistake of telling her I would give her "equal green", as what I spend on my rod fodder. The 40 Tudor only cost $800, but dang it anyway!

This is the guy (who spoiled my sneaky plans by leaving all the messages on the voice recorder) taken just before I loaded the Tudor project up at his place.

Think I'll build a Von Dutch rod, with the tudor in gray primer and huge flying and flaming eyeballs painted on the sides and top --- kindof like the hotwheels model I bought at the Five & Dime Store last week. Has anyone seen that '40 Tudor Hotwheels model? Pretty cool!

This is where I hid the new rat rod project... out through the trees and back of the shop where I've hidden some other projects.

My wife buys more minature donkeys (real ones) every time i bring another car/truck home. She had way more money spent than I did until I bought my 32 3W. now she says she has 40 donkeys coming to equal cost of 32. [IMG]

  7. my buddy just bought the world famous ROCKY 33 pickup on ebay. he brought it home and his wife was absolutely pissed off! they have been married for 30 years,i've known the guy for over 35 ...i've never seen her get so PO'D before.she has never cared what he did before.he's a good provider, she has a good job, they have some money in the bank.

i learned a good leason from my dad years ago....don't tell them about it..have some money they don't know about...and don't bring it home, have a shop a long ways from the house.

maybe that's why i'm still single

Yea ,I made that mistake too in the past.I ain't going there again. This time I'm being up front but keeping a low profile about it."But Babe,I got the frame for 40 cents on the dollar".

Yeah, speaking of frames, I did score some points with the wife last week when I got a '35-'40 Ford frame with no cash outlay. My wife watched a guy pull up into the yard with the frame on his trailer so there was no way to him-hah about that, but I told her that I had traded a 1939 Chevy frame for a nice Deuce hood, and got that old Ford frame to boot! That was 99% the truth and it kindof made the wife happy that not every deal I do means a cash outlay. I didn't mention the fact at the time, however, that I had immediate plans for the frame...

Anyway, I wanted to have a good Ford platform before I made the deal on the Tudor, so I got it first. I'm now in the process of taking the arch out of the rear x-member in that frame to help lower the rear end of the rod. The pics don't show the nice rear fenders, which are inside the '40 sedan, but obviously the project is in need of a hood...
If any of you Intermountain-West Hambers have an extra hood, or can give me a lead on one I'd appreciate it. The car is a Deluxe model, but even a good Standard hood would work. Maybe the Deluxe front end is a little too fancy anyway for a rat rod. Donno, any opinions on that?

By the way, while I've got the rear X-member out of the 35-40 Ford frame for repairs, I want to adjust the arch to lower the car. I'm not able to look at the thing while I'm at the computer, so I might be visualizing one of my other Ford X-members, but on a 35-40 frame, maybe I need to add more arch rather than less... DOH, I think I'll go back to bed.

I don't use our wages from our day jobs to buy car shit. I buy/sell/trade car parts and projects to get the $$$ I need for my addiction. That way, she can't say a word about the money but when we get in $$$ trouble for house repairs etc etc, I always hafta rob MY car account to make up for a shortfall! and it never gets repaid, either.
She hasn't got a leg to stand on regarding money spent on my car stuff but she nails me on "time spent" away from cuddling on the couch.
Still, she seemed surprised to hear about my 53 Stoody project I have had stashed in a friend's garage for the last 2 years. She always says the same thing:
"That thing's not coming here!" Heh heh.......they always come here, baby....

That's the way it is here too...but it's not like its solely the WIFES household bills...YOU LIVE IN IT TOO! :p That's the only way I can semi-justify it to my husband...
As for the phone calls messing up your deal.....When my husband put our 50 up for sale on the HAMB....by the time I got home from work there were already 7 messages on the machine referring to it - and he hadn't even told me about it yet. I liked that car [IMG] Oh well...it paid some bills. LOL [IMG]

Ahh...I remember married life! My ex-wife had a unique view on things...she liked to stay home all day and buy things for "us". When I got home from work, I never knew WHAT she would have spent "our" money on that day!

But...whenever I bought something for my car projects...she'd scream and yell that I was wasting "our" money on MY 'toys'! She rationalized all of her silly purchases by saying that the stuff was for "us"!

So...one day, a co-worker gave me an old Mustang that he was tired of driving and fixing. We went to his place after work, and I drove the car home. My wife blew a gasket...

"WHERE did you get THAT car?!!" she screamed!

"Oh...some guy at work had it and...", I started

"I don't CARE! You went out and spent OUR money on another CAR we don't NEED?!", she yelled!

I figured I'd have a little fun with her, so I told her in my calmest, most patient sounding voice, "The car was a great deal...it only cost US $600...and it runs great!".

"SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS???!!! Where the HELL did you hide six hundred dollars from me?", was all she could fathom in return.

"I saved it a little at a time...I figured WE could use a good spare car, in case WE ever needed one, so I thought it would make a nice addition to OUR fleet!", I concluded.

It worked...she avoided me for a month or so, and I stayed out in the garage working on shit when I wasn't at work or sleeping...she shacked up with one of my best friends and moved to Florida! That free Mustang was the best thing to happen to our relationship and marrige! [IMG]

In the divorce, I got all of the cars and all my shit, and she took all the crap she had acquired for "us'! Worked for me...so long and good riddance!

Cheeryblossom, Does that mean if Mike and I can come to an agreement on one of his nailheads I should give you the money? Its the least I could do as you have been working on my behalf through this deal. HAHA!!!

It's amazing what "some guy I know" "gave me for free" sometimes...

The only problem is when something bad happens to the "free" stuff and I am expected to be ok with it, because it was free... [IMG]

Good thing we don't have any joint bank accounts.... [IMG]

I had a wife like that once , a long time ago, I held her head underwater until the bubble stopped then quickly gave her cpr. she left me and since then no more problems

  20. I have learned the very hard way- from now on, the more complete the car, the less hell I get from the wife- I am not dragging home anything that needs a ton of work any more. The longer the project takes, the longer I gotta hear about how it is not done
