Center console ideas?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by gears-n-grease, Sep 7, 2005.

  1. I dont want to cut holes ect, but I want a stereo. Any one got any pix, recommendations or even a tech on building a clean custom center console? I have built a rough pattern out of wood but it needs more. Even with bondo molding and paint what I got is still to plain. I have a bench seat, so even that has presented an issue with tieing or not tieing it in to the seat area. thanks

No way you can hide it in the glove box or under the seat or whatever?

  3. still presents a problem with front speakers - i havent been able to find spare kick panels to make a pod type kick panel.

  4. Hide it IN the seat. It'd take some work but I've seen them hidden under a door that's built intot he seat, covered and padded to blend into the upholstery. Hidden from view, felenious types, and easy to reach. When you park just stick the cover back in place and presto! hidden stereo.

can you post some pics of your interior area and what you currently have built?

This console is in a 51' Merc. It has AM/FM c***ette, controls for remote CD, CB radio and a couple of tweeters on each side under the fabric (they work well).
It is made of plywood and is covered with floor mat material. It is not attached in any way but just straddles the hump (stays in place quite well). All front and rear speakers are in the doors under the fabric and are invisible.:)
