I still like the satin finish CL Auto-Drags, ran them on all my Mopars back in eighties. I did have two 15x3.5" front runners develop some cracks around the rivets. They never failed completely and Super Shops finally warrantied them for me. They argued a little, said that front runners were not supposed to used on the street, I argued that the box said street legal. The replacements never cracked. Had them on a '68 Coronet 500 convertible that I drove to work every day for a long time.

not exactly the hot lick for Trad, but my 71 likes them.

Roomy, light with timeless styling. Looking a score a set for the daughter's Trans Am.

I had a set back in the day... Almost rubbed my fingerprints off every time I cleaned them. I hated them!!!

I remember when a friend of mine got some in '77 or so. Man people looked at those wheels like they were from mars. :) All the really cool hot rodders knew what they were...

Another guy I knew back then wrapped his Road Runner around a pole after going over the curb at 80 or so and bent the bejeebers out of some Auto Drags but they didn't break or crack.

Very tough wheels. Unfortunately, Centerline jacked up the price on them (about 50%) a few years ago.

Edit to add: As someone mentioned, the Eagle acid spray made keeping them looking new super easy.

Yes, all that, but Ray Lipper made a good living off of those "lazy" wheels that swept the country by storm. They outsold the Cragar Super Trick by 500 to one, not a bad success story especially for a lazy designer.

  7. I know they aren't pre-'64 traditional, but I've always loved those wheels. Probably because I grew up in the '70s-'80s.

They are a minimalist design, real racing wheels; they are light, run true, and are tough. The only problem I ever had was one that needed some silicone in the rim drop to keep the air from leaking out (albeit slowly). I always liked the way they looked, especially on a car that was sort of serious. Or, not-so-serious, like my roadster.

So is it ok to run radials on them for minimal street use? Carlg

I ran radials on mine for over 20 years. Only problem was that one of the front wheels needed to be re-siliconed to avoid a slow air leak. These wheels are lightweight, true, and tough. Mine were polished, and I maintained them with Windex and newspaper. Every third year or so, some Wenol brings them back to a fresh shine.

Yeah, off topic for a traditional car, but a great looking, strong, lightweight wheel more of us than will admit lusted after. Probably a good thing they don't come in 17, 18, or 20 inch diameters. If they did the flat black, rockers dragging the ground crowd would be all over them, painting them bright red or green, and adding dagger like wheel lugs.

  12. I've got a pair of these weld zero drag, still trying to figure out what to do with them. :D

I've got a set of 50 year old magnesium Americans for my Anglia (unfinished project) for when I want to show, and a set of never run polished Centerlines for when I want to go.

Got some 15x10s and 15x7s on my O/T '72 Torino. Had them on several of my cars. Love 'em.
