I installed ceramics a couple years ago. Only drive the 54 under 2k miles a year. Will these ceramics wear out the drums prematurely or shouldnt i worry about it. Not sure if you can buy new front drums now or in the future. Rears are no problem. Wondering if i should go back to the organics....Whats your thoughts guys...Thanks..Jim
The softer the lining the lesser the damage. I found the cheapest linings possible work the best for saving drums. With that said they will fade quicker.. Adding disc brakes to the front will probably mean never doing another brake job. Non-power ***ist is a very simple job on our Fords.
Not sure about the ceramic shoes but front drums are available from RockAuto. 1634R is the part #. The write-up is in the 'FAQ Sticky' section, post #145. When I first put my brake system together with RockAuto drums and Autozone shoes, I had a horrible squeal coming from the right side. Turned out to be a bunch of fortune cookies rattling around in there! Remedy: had my local front end shop (who are well versed in cl***ic cars) turn all 4 drums and reline the shoes with NOS linings matching them to each drum. Now my brakes are silent and stop the car perfectly!
From the "Sticky" section on brakes, 1952-54 Fords use the same brake shoes as 1967-71 Ford V8 Mustangs. https://www.performanceonline.com/brake-shoes-rear-1964-72-ford-mustang/ And https://www.performanceonline.com/brake-shoes-front-1964-71-ford-mustang/

Thanks Jeff. After reading the info i think i will stick with the ceramics. For some reason I thought the front drums were not available..I think i am done with any brake upgrades for a while...Vacuum booster and auto adjusters..Glad we have this site.. HAPPY to see you are on the mend. Get well...Jim
