OK, all I hear on here is how badass everyone is because they actually DRIVE their cars. Fuck Trailer Queens....right? Time to put up or shut up. Goodguys started hosting an Autocross at some of their events last year. This year the response has been even better, but so far I only know of ONE HAMBer who has done it. It's a timed short course and the winner of each of the two classes (Hot Rod and Street Machine) gets a FREE set of tires from BFG.

I don't care if a HAMBer wins the tires, but I'd like to see them compete for bragging rights on here. Who is the best HAMB car and driver?

So I'm challenging all HAMBers who are going to the 15th Lone Star Nationals in Ft. Worth or the 14th Southeastern Nationals in Charlotte, NC to DRIVE THEIR SHIT! It's Friday and Saturday at each event.

It's FREE and you can go around as many times as you want! Yes, whiners (see later posts below), after you pay to get in. Things like car shows, movies and sporting events cost money to get in.

    Whatcha got?!?!?!

Here's HAMBer, buflochp, tearing it up. He drove the crap out of that car, and with a flattie and an I-beam no less!

Not a HAMBer, but driving the shit out of his truck.

    ADDED:

    The basic rules are:

    -DOT tires only

    -No passengers under 18

    -Pass basic safety inspection:
    Functional seat belts
Proper brake pedal pressure and travel
Sufficient throttle return spring and secured battery
All lugnuts in place and tight
    Hubcaps must be removed
All loose items removed from vehicle

Of course, if you drive like a dick they'll kick you off of the track.

Also, the Autocross is run by local road course racing clubs who really do a good job.

The cones on their side act like arrows, directing you which way to go.

  4. Ok i see. that makes more sense.

Reminds me a lil of the streetkana that N.S.R.A. use to do back in the 70's...

  6. Kirk, do you know which shows that are hosting that? I'd be up for it, assuming it isn't way out West.

You mean it's free after paying $85 to get in don't you.

  10. If it wasn't for the $60 entry I would show these jokers what a model A
is supposed to do on the track.

Ask anyone that has tried to follow me. :D

Try $60. Man, you caught me. As usual I am just trying to screw everyone by telling them about something cool.

The free hangout is in the supermarket parking lot. You're gonna love it. You get to rebel by hanging out with the homeless guys...but it's free. Well, until the cops show up when you're doing donuts on your own parking lot race course. Hopefully the homeless guys don't steal your cones and electronic timing equipment. Oh, you don't have either of those? Well, I guess you could use shopping carts as cones, and have the homeless guys count for your timing. It's gonna rule!

Let's not get into the price thing for the 500th time. If $50-$60 is too much for you to spend for TWO people and you car to get in for THREE days, that's fine. Most people can afford $8 a head per day to go to a car show for 10 hours, shop vendors, shop the swapmeet, cruise the NASCAR track and drive the Autocross.

If you can't afford it, you need a new hobby that's cheaper, like walking.

The most fun you can have with your clothes on at a GoodGuys event.

Me riding with Dad in his "56 Olds last weekend at Chicagoland

and with Jeff alittle while later in his owner built Ultima GT with 1,000 HP twin turbo LS6.:D

Next year I'm really looking forward to doing it in Big Olds even though I know it will just be for fun cuz against smaller cars I don't have a chance.

Yes, many times in fact. So many times that the tires started getting hot and our last time around he did a couple of massive 360 degree donuts and wiped out a bunch of cones! HAD A BLAST!

  27. That would be cool to do. I have never pushed my 46 to the point where it would oversteer in a sharp turn. It would be good practive and a goold place to learn the limits of your set up as well. My poor tires.

Who cares if it has a DOHC Cobra engine in it? I know I do.... because that truck fucking rules. Hands down. Zach is his name and he drives the truck everywhere, beats on it, and drives it home. I rode with him around the Autocross course at Americruise in Lincoln, NE, a few times and absolutely loved it.
He also ditched the straight axle and put in a Scott's IFS. I suppose that's wrong, too.

    Ok, I'm done with that.

Now, I haven't made it to a GG event yet that had a course set up, but I can tell you that I spent 3/4 of my time the last couple years of Americruise at the Autcross course. I beat the crap out of my Galaxie and had a great time doing it. Check out the latest issue of Rod & Custom w/ Americruise coverage.

I really think the courses are a great addition to (selected) Goodguys events. That alone will encourage me to attend the KC Goodguys next year.
