That is so cool! If it does come to Pleasanton, I'll whip the snot out of something I own!!

Can we do in the dirt, too? I might not leave an event like that the whole day!!

  4. I wanted to race that guy at the HAMB Drags but things never worked out. Nice enough guy and he found out his truck was inspired by mine, NEATO!

I would love to burn off some tread on one of these courses. Looks like an absolute blast....

I'm convinced if the entire Goodguys event was free and handjobs were available for all the participants bringing a hot rod, someone would still bitch and complain.

Kirk, we need to set that up at Scottsdale this year.

Down on the main field! Or thru the swap area.

I dont think you have that problem, the bias ply's dont hook up enough. I know this for a fact, I have countless laps around the course in lincoln . Oh , what fun!!!
I absolutly loved hearing people make their first run and then say " well my car isnt really set up for this stuff" , then proceed to spend the rest of the afternoon tearing it up. It is all in how you drive it. Hell yes it is a riot!!!! I never did see the rest of the show, I spent all the time around the course.
I would have made the trip to Kansas City GG if I had known that this was available.

Hell yes! Remember in Pleasanton a few years ago when they had the test drives of the Dodge cars? A friend of mine and I did about 100 laps in her husband's roadster before security came.

I'm going to have to get my Model A on the road ASAP.

No you don't. I think the $60 is the non-member price. I think it's $50 for members. Members also get to preregister.

I don't know either. I'm not sure why I keep beating my head against the same wall. I guess they are the same people who watch the movie at the drive-in from across the street so they don't have to pay, and then bitch when the drive-in goes out of business.

  14. I must be getting old because i don't see the need to take a car that you have put your heart and soul into and take it out on the concrete and slide around corners and try to destroy it. N.S.R.A. used to do the Go and Stop to see how fast you could take off stop . Saw rear ends broken, axles snap, front ends break, then the people could not get back home. By the way that has nothing to do about driving your car to the event. I may be the only one that thinks like this and I always drive my cars. I have been to L.A. twice already this year in my 32 roadster Pickup and i will be in Ft. Worth. Just my 2 cents.

I think thats one of the coolest things GG'S has ever done.

Not only Fun - BUT an eye opener - ( Your Hot Rod might not handle as good as your Blazer or Explorer daily driver )..!

And I BETCH YA - NONE of the Mustang/Pinto Front Suspension knock off Builders ARE sponsering this..!

That looks like alot of fun.

I wish my car was up to it. Unfortunately, just making it to the events can sometimes be an adventure itself.

BTW, In INDY, you still have to pay for handjobs, sorry.:(

KIRK! Thanks for pushing this. I vibrate just thinking about it and after seeing it in Joliet (my first exposure) I can't wait until next year. Watching the Roadster Shop boys tear it up was cool enough but I really wish I had seen that coupe going around. Next year we'll see if pie pan slicks and ribbed (for my pleasure) dirt trackers are worth a shit. See you in INDY for the HROTY cruise.

All I know, it was fun, the old A-bone did good, I did'nt beat nobody and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I can tell you one thing, Fast ain't always quick. A little 62 or so Chevy II Wagon beat my time by better than a second, with a 6 cylinder. I do think I made more noise than anybody else. Ha Ha

Thanks to everyone involved, I've had a smile on my face all week.

  20. the way to do it would be to back up your trailer at the starting line and unload your car to run the course. Then load it back up and be on your way. That way you could drive your car and trailer it too. Better yet, build a auto-crossing fiberglass 32 roadster with F1 suspension and flathead power. That way all the bases would be covered for the whiners. As far as the entry fee goes, spend a weekend at your closest off-ramp with one of those cardboard signs (your choice on what it says). By sunday nite you should have the entry fee covered.

  21. that red unibody was at the HAMB drags..........the wheel off the ground kicks ass.

And I really dont get the chip on the shoulder of some guys that think they are part of some "in" group here? Like Ryan has time to target one SOB and boot him everytime he hits19 posts for shits and giggles?

It's about time somone said what you said Kirk. I mean, people piss and moan
about how Goodguys makes money in the hobby by promoting shows and how much admission is and blah, blah, blah...

I for one hope Goodguys makes money - lots of it! Becuase if they do; they are going to keep putting on these great events with tons of cars and great people at exceptional venues. I'll pick a Goodguys event over any other every time.

you dont have to drive your car to the point that it is gonna break, just have alittle fun.
Maybe you just have to build it stronger or get skinnier tires so it doesnt grip as well and then nothing will break.
I am just saying that it is ok to get out there and drive your car alittle bit. Think about it , the acceleration contests are really just like when you GET ON IT to merge with trafffic or leave alittle black mark in front of your buddies house. I f it breaks there, maybe it is time for a stronger drive train. I also think the road course is a good test to see how safe your rod is jsut in case you might have to avoid the nearly unavoidable. You dont have corner on three wheels,(but if you do , I want a ride what fun). I think you should just try it , it might be fun.

  26. Sounds like the whiney Stretrodder attitude that killed events in the late 80s.........that and lots of 70s cars were built like shit:D :D

Thats looks fun as hell! Oh yeah...... If I already know I Drive my Hot Rod and look like a Monkey f@#king a Football, would I still have to pay to get in to watch? Nah, just kidding, my little truck handles really well, but nothing like that Camaro! WOW!

I also got a giggle about the special Ed Guy up there talking about people Bashing the Unibody (What the heck you talking about dude?) and then wondering why he gets booted from the board..... But I digress.

Cool Post Kirk. Thanks for the info Kirk, never seen this before. (Im not BSing either, really neat.) Thanks For Sharing and looks like fun for those playing.

MOST of the cars that were participating were built to handle a course like that. The style is called "pro-touring". There was probably a dozen cars that fit this catagory that were putting their cars thru the paces without any issues what so ever. I was there more then 1/2 the time it was going on and not one car "broke" anything. The ONLY dude that I even think was going to have issues was the one from Air Ride and it was going to be his trans. By the end of the day it was sounding nasty. I don't think he cared. He was showing off his "product" for his customers. Throw the car back in the trailer, take it back to the shop and fix it, then bring it back out when completed. No sweat. Same concept as building a car for the dragstrip. You take the chance of breaking it and are prepared if it happens.

If you know you have to drive your car home then you just have to know your cars limits and ajust your driving accordingly.

This event is meant to be fun....fun to participate in if you desire AND fun to watch as well....AND IT WAS!
