I have a Speedway disk brake kit that came with GM 11" rotors with 5 on 4 3/4" pattern. I need to change it to the Ford rotors from a Granada with the 5 on 4 1/2" pattern. Are the bearings the same, or what bearings do I use with the new rotors?

    Thanks,

Redrill the rotor and hub to 5 on 4 1/2". Or is that not an option?

rockauto.com is your friend for easily finding wheel bearing part numbers to cross reference what fits and what doesnt

I hadn't considered that, as I thought rotors were cheap, seems as though I was wrong ($45ish each). I may try that and just mill a flat spot on the back side for the new stud.

  5. i think Speedway uses an inner bearing adapter on both of those kits...and they are both different. so you will need to change that too. if i recall correctly , a friend with `40 spindles had to pull off the adapter when he switched from 4-1/2 rotors to 4-3/4 rotors when he changed wheels. you should check with Speedway on that

if you are able to re-drill i'd just do that to make it simple

  6. walker what kind of car ? if its a 55-59 ford the whole Granada spindel will go on the ford. Had one on my 57.

Its going on a TT Ford truck. I'll have to check out the bearings at rock auto and see if they interchange. I looked at it for redrilling the rotors and if I mill through the web that is there to put a stud in the middle of the other studs it apparently weakens the rotor (as per another post on this forum) and they are prone to breakage. If I drill a larger hole and use a stub that has a bigger shoulder it might work, though I'd have to find studs that had an 1/8th" bigger shoulder, the ones in my heap of wheel studs is only about 3/32" bigger, I might have to keep hunting. I wonder if there is such a thing as an offset stud, where the shoulder is offset from the stud. You could then change the bolt pattern just by rotating the stud.

  8. Most Mustang/GM brake rotor conversions are basically a bearing change,i.e. a specific bearing that fits the GM rotor but with an Int.Diameter the same as the MII spindle.
If you revert back to Ford rotors it should be simply a matter of getting the correct ones for the Mustang rotor/spindle.

I think the caliper bracket is different because of rotor offset.

I did the same thing you did when i started on my A build, (thought i was going to go all GM pattern)..
just fork over the 70 bucks (or what ever it is) to buy the same GM intermediate Rotor with the ford Bolt pattern from Speedway

it wont change a thing when it comes to the bearings/..
I have a set of GM pattern rotors for sale in the classifieds..because of my same screw up

in some cases it is not as simple as getting a Ford bearing to use Ford rotors. on my disc kit it used one bearing with a different race. the race that came with the bearing gets tossed. there was also a machined adapter on the spindle to get everything to work together.

More relevant would be what spindle is the rotor being mounted on.

good point..if you bought the speedway kit, and the spindles that went with it 37-48 ford..all you have to do is buy the GM intermediate rotors (they are the same ones you have) but with the ford Bolt pattern

They are going on a pair of 39-48 Ford spindles. The set was in use on another car and I have had it lying around for a while. Looks like you either use the Granada rotors with MII inner bearing and the outer bearing is the same as the GM one, or buy the GM redrilled to Ford pattern rotor from Speedway. Oddly enough, Speedway is cheaper on these rotor than anything I can find locally ($39), so I may just order them.
