IMG_1159.jpeg IMG_1158.jpeg IMG_1157.jpeg Anyone know how to remove the ignition switch and headlight switch in a 56 mercury?
I bought a new headlight switch and the knob is already glued on any thoughts on how to change this to the Mercury knob?

  2. You should be able to press the silver spring in the middle of the switch to pull knob with rod out. Some switches you press towards the dash from behind and and turn the bezel to release the switch.

According to eBay, the Rev is right.
After double checking, this bezel only shows fitting back to 1960. Maybe you'll get lucky.

I don’t know but I can say the 59’s are same as @The.Rev.Earl described.

Get a shop manual - that may tell you how to do it

I'm sure it the same as the Fords.
    1. The light switch will have a small spring loaded metal ****on about mid way along the bottom of the switch. Press down on that ****on while wiggling and pulling out on the switch stem. The switch stem has a groove that locks into the ****on mechanism, so you will just push your Mercury switch stem into the new switch until it clicks into place.
    3. Now for the ignition switch. You will notice J slots in the picture of the bezel that Stig posted. Those slots lock on to two lugs on the switch housing There is a coil spring behind the dash, around the switch housing. So as Rev. mentioned, you push on the switch from behind the dash which compresses the spring and allows you to twist the bezel and unlock it from the lugs. Installation is just the reverse. Push the switch against the spring from behind the dash and turn the bezel to lock onto the lugs. The spring then holds the switch in place.

I bought a new switch from Kwik Wire when I got the harness, the knob and the shaft were attached on the old and new one.
