I am changing the 6 cylinder in my 54 Customline to a 239. Is there any difference in the clutch release mechanism for the 3 speed ******?
I will ***ume you already have the 239 They should line up but not sure about the 239 . But before you use the 239 , consider this , they are getting harder to find parts for and performance parts are not to be found . You can't interchange any other Y block parts with the 239 either . I would leave the 6cyl. in the car and save my money up for a 292 . You can score them very easily and the performance end is endless . Just something to consider before you put your time and money into the 239 . There is also just a little more performance too . You could also hop up your 6cyl. too ! Just a thought .
I must say.... A nicely built 6 cylinder with some performance goodies looks great in an engine bay and always gets looks. The money you would spend on the 239 change could buy some good stuff for the 6!
That was a really good idea genosslk ! You have a good point there ! I have seen some really nice looking 6 cyl. with 2 or 3 carbs and a decent Clay Smith cam that runs stronger than the 239 will ever make . The parts for the 6 cyl is not hard to find at all . They are also very easy engines to rebuild . Jim
Ditto on the 6 build! I just installed Barker Hi-Lift rockers and a dual Offy intake on my 215 I picked up on ePay for $50 with a nice set of Holley gl*** bowls (pics in my album). Next is an Offy finned valve cover, cloth wires w/Rajah ends and maybe a custom split stock exhaust mani. My winter project is to pull the engine and give it a paintjob as well as paint the engine compartment. I also have an OD trans to install and am thinking of finding a 223 that I can swap out for a few extra ponies.
