Got a 40 Ford that has VDO gauges in it want to change out to cl***ic Instruments FC40-OE that is set up for 240-33 ohms for the fuel. Know all other senders will work, but will it be compatible with the VDO sender. Don't want the h***le of having to drop the tank if I don't have to. Thanx for your responses

VDO fuel sender is 10 to 180 ohms

Bob Lowry and pprather like this.
  4. It will bridge the two, it's not just for Autometer stuff. I fine tuned it to meet my factory gauge.

    From the website:
    • Allows you to use any AutoMeter "90 degree short sweep electric fuel level gauge" with any stock or aftermarket fuel sending unit
    • 8 pre-programmed resistance ranges for popular fuel level sending units
    • Configurable option with linear adjustments at 5 points (F, ¾, ½, ¼, & E) anywhere between 0-1000 or 1000-0 ohms
    • Pre-programmed for the following: 240/33, 0/90, 0/30, 16/158, 73/10 (linear and non-linear), 10/180, 40/250

This is an interesting topic as I have issues with my gas gauge as well. I installed my new SW gas gauge and float using their instructions for install and calibration but my gauge never seems to show more than 1/2 full? Am I to believe that installing the Auto Meter bridge will give me an adjustability that will correct my misreading? Sorry for the hi jack.

  6. It will IF the problem isn't mechanical, meaning the float or float arm isn't hitting something to make it physically not move higher (or there's nothing wrong with the wiper or windings on the sender).

Basically it just works with a ohms differential problem.
