Folks, need suggestions for changing the rear end gear ratio on a 1952 Chevy 3100 truck. I'd like to be able to drive it at higher speeds. Are there kits out there to do an upgrade? Thanks.
Not much was ever available. A guy in AZ. was making higher gears, I believe 3.55’s but he had many many problems and stiffed a few folks. I knew him but never ever did business with him. He has p***ed on. Your better off getting a 54 2nd series transmission thru 59 that has an open drive line (guys are up grading so it should be too hard to find one and your stock column linkage in a bolt up) and changing the complete rear end. An 8.8 is reliable and they are in every bone yard. I believe the flanges are big enough to redrilled for your 6 bolt pattern.
I would swap in an 8.8 or a NineInch. Lots of ratios are available for either. With a little sleuthing you can probably even find one where the spring pads align. I think my buddy did a Bronco 8.8 in his '58 Chevy commercial van that was the correct width.
https://www.cl***ychevusa.com/ Hello, For most Chevy truck parts and set up information for older ones, these guys have a ton of resources. Go to the website and/or call them. They are very nice about information and things related to old Chevy trucks. Jnaki They are located in So Cal. And, have a lot of cool trucks/information under their belts.
If it might be helpful, I used a 70s 10 bolt? Rear axel on my 52 and then swapped in axle shafts from a 79 4x4 as they have the right 6 bolt pattern
