Changing SBC HEI distributor

I'm building a '28 model A with a SBC. I have built a recessed firewall, but with the HEI distributor I still have clearance problems, especially for removal. Any suggestions for either retrofitting to an older, smaller distributor or (preferred) upgrading to a smaller aftermarket electronic unit?
