I just love the look of a channeled Model A, be it a coupe, sedan or roadster. Can't say I ever remember seeing a magazine article about how its properly done. How about it out there, anybody remember any build threads that show how its done? Don't know about anybody else out there, i haven't even started my winter rebuild project on my PU, but I'm already thinking about my next project when the PU is done
I know that there are one or two definitive channel threads out there & maybe one of the better thread detectives can dig one up. I think the most important factor to realize is that no two channels are alike. When I did mine (not a Model A, but close) I found out that simplicity was the key. I think the best way is to have your ch***is ***embled, engine & trans installed & on the ground with your proper sized wheels & tires. Then, you can get a good idea on how low you want to go, body-wise. Once you have your channel depth established, you can build your subfloor & attach it to the inside of your body by welding, bolting or a combination of both. You can also then properly notch your firewall to fit over the frame rails & bellhousing or trans hump. Once you have your subfloor attached, you can lower your body onto the frame & bolt it on with rubber or wood dampeners between the metal. After that, you can properly build your floor. The last step is to get in the car & drive it away. Good luck & have fun!
Here is a little project I have in the corner. I folded up some 14 gauge and made some new Hat channel for crosmembers. They will go in where the stock ones were and are dropped so I can put the wood floors back in. It's not finnished but you can get the idea. Not my first time doing this. The ch***is is Kicked 3 1/2" with a 4 1/2" dropped axle with a Banger. It's just for fun. The Wizzard
