    1. have right indicator on soild and left front turn signal on solid also.
    2. no brake no running lights or turn signals to rear.

i guess where would i start to look for the light issue.?

    3. do have correct working head light high and low.
do have power to Alt, starter and back lighting for gauges when pulling the head lights on..

    thank you

I’d start by double checking the wiring to the turn signal switch. Kind of depends on how the switch is designed though. And if it’s working correctly

  3. Is this a new install or was it working previously?

    Basic trouble shooting.
    1. Check for power getting to the component that isn't working.
    2. If power present, check the ground for the component.
    3. If ground good, check for power leaving the switch.
    4. If power leaving the switch, check wire to component for damage.
5 If no power leaving the switch, check for power in or defective switch.

Once disconnected, the turn signal switch can be easily tested for function with a ohm meter or powered test light. When it is disconnected fuse protected 12 v jumper can be used to see if each of the four lights and indictors light up. Brake light and flasher inputs can be checked with a meter or test light.

Let us know what you find.

    Disconnect battery.
You have lights on with no switches operating. That means you have stuff powered that should not be powered. Either you have wiring messed up or switches messed up. Diagnose and repair before leaving battery and power connected, or you may let out smoke.

  5. It's likely the wiring harness is okay......
and likely the turn signal switch is wired wrong. Maybe the 12v power to the switch connected to the wrong dingus. With the switch in the off (neutral) position there should be no power to any light.
*We all know this but sometimes it helps to say it out loud.

The instruction sheets for those wiring kits are hell for detailed but it is up to you to follow the instructions and make damned sure that you are following the correct instructions for what you have and not those for something with a different setup.
If you don't have the instructions for the exact kit number you have find it on line and study the section you are having problems with to see where you made a mistake.

They also have a list of schematics for wiring specific components.

  8. I did a Kwik Wire on my car, the instruction book was great. My column wiring was supposed to have stripes on them... they were obliterated with age. So I had to trace them 1-by-1. It was only 10 total possibly including the horn wire. I just tagged them as I confirmed the functions then wired up the column plugs.

I used Kwik Wire in my Buick. All wires were labeled on the
    wire. Worked perfect first time.

  10. The new kits I’ve seen the print on the wires has gotten less bold. Some are blurred must less bold than the old kits. Instructions are not as bright a bold print either. Maybe because I’m 79!

  11. I got an off brand kit with the wire labels printed in black on black wires. Being 75 doesn't impact readability on that.

  12. I also used the painless kit. Everything worked the first time. Every wire is labeled about every 6 in as I remember. The installation instructions are very thorough. You just did something wrong.

My guess is something is wired incorrectly at the turn signal connector that mates the harness to the column OR the column is wired incorrectly. What column are you using? Solid front signals makes me think the rear are not connected properly and the flasher isn't seeing enough load to make them flash. This can happen when a bulb is burnt out as well. That's where I would start.

Exactly as PotvinV8 said. My painless harness did something similar. Power to turn signals with key off. Also, if any of the bulbs are LED, they won’t flash without a special flasher.

i just had the same problem. The harness was not wired correctly. I had to switch the wires from the emergency flashers with the turn signal flasher.

In reference to the picture in post 8, assuming the drag link is attached to the steering arm, does the angle of the pitman arm look correct ?
