I have a 1955 first series chevy truck and want to know what is the best frame and chasis to switch the body and bed over to.
This begs the question, why do you want to go to all the work of a frame swap? Nothing fits it better than the stock frame, which is a sturdy, straight ladder type frame that lends itself well to suspension upgrades. Check with Chassis Engineering, they can fix you up with what you need to upgrade suspension and hang about any drivetrain you want in it. Look at the front suspension under an '80s Ford Aerostar van, everything ties into a single crossmember that unbolts from the unit body. You get independent front suspension that any tire store can align, readily available parts, disc brakes, and rack and pinion all in one cheap package from your friendly local salvage yard.
well camaro seems to be a popular swap in the chevy trucks or why not just put a new subframe underneath it. Four link it in the rear. If you are going to make it for comfort just bag it go to ridetech.com
1955 First Series is an AD (Advanced Design) and similar to 47-54, so searching for those years may help pull out some more info. S10 is supposed to be not bad to use. But work-wise it's a toss up whether you change the body or change the suspension, either way you have to do some welding and fabricating to make it work. 38FordPickup, it's long been a fallacy that it's easier to swap the entire frame than it is to upgrade the existing frame, to update a vehicle. I'm not sure where that came from.
