Sam......it's time for you to move on. Leave the kids behind and move to Californication and work for Cole. OR.....start your own business and call it the "Glad Fabrication Society".........change your user name to "Good!"
Great job, well explained and documented. THANKS!! [IMG]

Fuck, the results were well worth the extra effort you put into that job! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

The typical "Z'd" kick-up looks okay...but that just looks INCREDIBLE!

Kudos to ya on the fine tech post...and for the creative use of wood! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    Can't wait for MORE! [IMG]

  10. Very nice Sam.

Saving the top and bottom of the original frame makes for a very nice and well finished look.
Kinda looks like it came that way from the factory.

I like how you think outside the box with your use of wood forms.

Looks like this time around, no big fires.

  11. Very nice!! It will be a shame to cover it up with a body.

  12. I was over there several times to check on the progress and it looks even better in person than the pictures. Laying the rear crossmember over 90 degrees made for a real nice curvy crossmember that actually is flatter and takes less space in the floor area. The pics don't show it as nice as it actually appears. Lot of work cutting and fabbing that rear, but the results were real nice.

I do too... but I have to give credit to Harlan for the idea of it... I had no idea how he did it, so the wood form is what I came up with.

Sam - That looks real good. Harlan just used a piece of welding rod bent to the shape he wanted, and then matched the frame to it by eye. I really like your wood buck idea. My brother-in-law has a AA frame that we plan to do this too, so we may have to "borrow" your idea. [IMG]

I look forward to seeing this car come together.

BTW, is there going to be enough clearence between the rear radius rod and the frame rail when it is at ride height? I ran into problems there on my chassis.

    Keep up the good work.

I might take you up on that one...I've yet to buy a welder and actually learn how to weld, but from watching Sam do all the welding, and me all the cutting, I think I have a pretty good jump start.

Nealin...I really hope we don't have clearance issues, we figured we had about 3" of good travel, we wanted the kickup to start after the radius rods so you couldn't see it by looking from the side.

Sam forgot to give a special thank to all those who stopped by from the HAMB and to ChopperBob for the use of his plasma cutter, which by the way is the coolest tool ever.

Now the stuff is in route and should be here within a couple of weeks...I just have to save up for a welder so I can fill up all the unneccesary holes in the frame and start in on the shock mounts.

  15. Neal, the rear kick-up bottoms out on the rear end (axle housings) before it bottoms on the wish bones. Not that it will bottom at all when it's set up with the correct spring pack. For shits and grins we removed four leaves out of the '40 spring pack and we both jumped on the rear to see how it traveled... we ended up with three springs removed, and when we jumped on it, it traveled the 6" of clearence we had and almost kissed the crossmember... my guess is with the body on, fuel, battery and passengers, it will need one more of the leaves put back in... and have 4" of travel before it hits...
    Sam.

Very bloody nice, good thinking on the wooden form, that's some gray matter at work.

Nice work, Sam, gave me a few ideas. I was thinking I could use that A crossmember till I saw you laid it over and used it. Pretty elegant stuff.

    You said it JR jr!

Sam, you really should put together a post showing the buildup of the Roach Rod for the many "Newbies" who now call this place home!
I'd love to see the Roach build in the TECH section (as well as this frame buildup).

The Roach is HAMB-alishious and was only what....$2 bucks per Lb?!?!
    Come on Sam...DO IT! [IMG]
