OK forum, got a question. Had the '54 gl***top up on the hoist today to inspect the ch***is, etc. Got some rust holes in the ch***is that could be repaired, but thinking it may be easier to go to a replacement ch***is. Got dibs on a 4 door ch***is ( Crestliner) from Raceron. Anyone know if a 4 door frame will fit or can be modified to go under a '54 hardtop? Failing that, are a 2 dr post and hardtop the same? Any info appreciated.
If you haven't done so yet get the Ford Parts CD from Retro Jim only $12 shipped to your door besides all the part numbers it has exploded views of every component of the car it shows the difference in the frames.
My 54 Vicky had an extra 1/4 by 2 inch strap welded to the bottom of the frame from the front spring bucket back to the rear spring eye area. Was this normal or only on Vickies and converts?
My '55 Victoria has that extra strap welded to the bottom of the frame, convertibles usually have a heavy duty X member.
My 54 business coupe has the same 1/4 by 2 inch welded to the the bottom of frame, as does my 54 Crestline Vicky. My 55 Victoria does too
John according to the parts book all '54s have the same frame Ford part #AD-5005-BF except convertibles - I think they have the X frames.
Don, this '54 has the strap, as did Ron's '56 Vicky. Ron, good to know. Wonder if the frame on that ;54 of your is any good.
