And Tim, I'm sorry about the hi-jack. I'll end with some majorly un-tuned flathead inspiration...

Tim get some 3 3/8 sleeves leave a shoulder on the bottom for them to sit on get a 4 1/4 crank and wala 304 inches. Fill da block and then you don't have to worry about water run alky is even better so I'm told......got my sleeves from LA Sleeve were pretty cheap I think ........ can look it up if you r interested

    Brant really nice car!!

Shortly after that video I pulled the power valves out of the carbs, but its still on gas, for cars like these, with no cooling system on an engine that is a known hot runner, alcohol is the only way to go, keeps the valves, seats and pistons cooler than gas. That engine was cold at the fire up and I shut it down on the return into the trailer (less than 3 minutes of running time) at 240 degrees.

With a filled block and alcohol the car will be much more user friendly. It will take longer to heat up, however the engine wont need to be warmed up before every pass as it should hold its heat for the day. Alcohol is also, in my humble opinion, far easier to tune on a race car than gas is. You don't have to have a super high-amp ignition for it and during tuning, you can ritchen alcohol up quite a bit. Makes it a little safer to play with.

A 304" flat head would be a nice running engine, although if money is a big object (like myself) a .125 over bore and a 4" merc crank will still yield affordable components.

Thanks Carl I looked up their site, pretty big outfit should have anything I need, Put the blower setup on the car to figure out line lenghts, spacers for pulleys and so on got to admit I like this look better:D, Filled block and Alky is the way I plan on going, I worked for a few top alcohol teams between jobs on the nitro cars, it was like being on vaction:), hell most of those guys didn't even drop the pan all weekend:D

Hey Brant are you staying dry up there the pics on the news don't look good,,,,The cheaper way is for me also ,I've seen a few merc cranks on here in the $200 to $300 range, I still have a few parts that will work for this ,,, BTW Carl I forgot to mention Garret was telling me we still have a boreing bar at work, it's been down at the train shop:D that cheapens the price down a bit:eek: Tim Jones

Staying dry, the digger got a little wet, as the vent lids in the trailer got some holes in them. Aside from that, myself and the family are dry. Some unfortunate folks in the lower lying areas of the city. Including our saddle dome (the nhl arena) and the stampede grounds.

The car looks killer with the 6-71, however that size blower on that engine will just be a heat pump, if you can swing it, keep it naturally aspirated and see if you can find a 3-71 or a 4-71 to toss on it. Keep that engine a little cooler and the boost charge temps way down.

Merc cranks are getting pricey lately. But if your not in a rush, they still pop-up on craigslist every once in a while. But even in a short wheel base car, a 239 would be a more than fun ride (believe me) they are short, the front ends are bouncy and gangly and they handle much like rolling a little red wagon down a steep hill and trying to steer with the handle up the front.

If all your internal bits are in good shape and you can't pop off to build that $10k monster flatty, just build a little 239 when you find a block or a 255 if you find a block and a cheap merc crank. Toss a new set of pistons in it (original ford ones make good paper weights on anything hotter than stock) some good rings, some new bearings (if it needs it) and just go have fun! After all, thats what its all about right?

Under driving a larger supercharger will manage the same chore, and the best part, it's cheaper.

In the world that Tim and I live in (nostaglia top fuel funny car racing), the 8-71 is the ticket, but very pricey (because it is in demand). So, a underdriven 14-71, which is plenty cheaper to find used, will equal cubic money in the pocket.

:D:D:D:D I guess the cars I worked on in the 80's and 90's are considered nostaglia now days:) Besides Justin you forget cince leaveing the fuel car wars ,17 or so years ago I still haven't set foot on a track in all this time:eek: I have a way I'm gonna have this car look and it's all about having fun and lookin good:confused: So the 6-71 is stayin, beside it's what I have:) I've talked to ronnieroadster on here who runs a 6-71 on his flathead powered bonneville car, and like Brant said heat will be a problem but it can be done:D ,,,, Justin 14-71??? this is the Flathead motor not the keith black for the funny car:D, Talk to you later Tim Jones

Rod Gage (carmuts) brought out the 47 ford cab for my Ramp truck, I got it from him last fall and never had time to run out to western Nebr. to pick it up, turned out he was bringing and picking up some parts out this way so we worked out a deal for him to haul it out,:) first atempt this spring he ran ito a snow storm and had to turn around:( then the night before leaving the second time he came down with the flu :(, this time he made it, I met him about 40 minutes south of my place and he followed me home, we got to my place and we soon relized the front fenders broke there strap and fell off from the time we met:eek: luck was on our side this time , they were about 4 miles from my place on the gravel road:D But here she is ,The cab is in pretty good shape, might have to get a new pass fender depends on how good a body man I still am it's missing a little bit, The rest I can fix, I do need a drivers door,, But hey the price was right,,,,, Tim Jones I need to start a build thread on this swap

Thanks Justin right now I'm gonna get all the wireing and hardware hooked up so I can move it around, I still can add to the back off the cab later:eek: ,but after putting it on the frame I relized if I tryed the short doors on it they would be so skinny you really wouldn't get much use out of them, still would look cool tho, Maybe one of your buddies over there has an old cab laying around they'd want to donate to the cause:D Tim Jones

Tim, you would not believe this, but me my cousin dug out a 47 Ford pick-up truck from a local farmer dump when we where about 13 years old:D! That is looong time ago, and the cab ended up in my cousins backyard, then was sold of some years later. I still has some small parts from it, actually sold the hood opener and emblem last year.
I think it was the first pc I tried to polish:D.
It's sure gona be cool to see it finished and fed on the rear:)

Thanks Kjell, I'm hopeing it turns out looking good, the heat has been slowing me down on it tho, Here's a couple pics, got the fire wall done and started the wireing, as for the race car, The block with the bad sleeve is still in the car, but the other block is at the machine shop,, Tim Jones

Question Tim. Are you going to paint the truck like the race car? It would sure make a fine looking rig.
