Tim, strap those zoomies together, that way if one of the pipes happens to break at the flange it will stay with the car instead of it possably getting underneath the rear tire or bouncing off Beth's helmet

No not a dumb question at all, I have a splined shaft comming off the rear, and the same spline shaft comming out of the trans, They are joined together by a coupleing device that slides over the two shafts, the coupler slid forward onto the trans shaft, releaseing the rear shaft causeing no drive to the rearend ,I'm going to use two shaft lock rings on each side of the coupler to hold it in place, and use a shim to hold all in place as Bruce subjested, Hopes this made sense

Thanks Tim, that makes sense, I thought it was the shaft that was moving and couldn't figure out how that would happen. Thanks for schooling me on that. Good to hear it was not a bigger deal and there was no damage.

Well Dragster driveing 101 got rained out today, but I got a few things done anyway, Got the headers straped together , So Beth won't have the attack of the killer zoomies to deal with:D, Added a saddled bearing to help stabilize the steering, supposed to be dry tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes 102_0513.jpg 102_0510.jpg 102_0530.jpg 102_0531.jpg 102_0512.jpg

Hello to all ! To just sit in that car is really something else. To put your foot on the gas and have it move on my own was beyond awesome. When your heart is going a million miles an hour and your mind is just blown away WOW....They say never give up your dreams, me I never give up on anything I really want and anything someone ever said I should not or couldn't do. Tim is the best , he never said don't do this, it is always I know you can do it.. AND I DID .I have a lot to learn , this is like no other thing I have ever been behind the wheel of before, One step at a time and don't hit the barn, the dog lot or Tim. I will learn and do my best to get it right and make Tim proud of me. Again I say WOW what a trip. Beth

Above all Beth, just remember that if you can't have fun doing this stuff, you're probably not capable of having fun. Keep smiling, that first pass down the track will have you grinning for months! ;)

Well here's her 3rd test drive She getting real comfortable in the car, Were still having trouble with the 2nd gear starts, so we decided next time to do her take off's in first and hope we don't tear up too many of these old 3 speeds:eek:, Hell we might not have any trouble at all, But a few of the guys that ran these back in the day told us to stock up on gear sets:(, Most told us to try the 2nd gear starts,, Beth's son Pete and his friend Trish and her son Bently came out to help, After testing we put the back end up and let Trish and Bently sit in the car while it was running, You can see the look in Bently's face he's a future Dragster driver 102_0616.jpg 102_0630.jpg 102_0631.jpg

They say necessity is the mother of invention,, We needed to start the car in first gear ,( 2nd gear starts wern't working out) ,But my use of a side shift cover on the top loader didn't let us use first gear, ( Not enough room in the case), So Back to the top loader shift tower, BUT with the steering box placement we only had maybe 5 inchs of space to work with , Shift tower is 8 inchs tall to the shifter, Well once again time to reinvent the wheel:eek:, So I cut the top of the shift tower off, Right above the shift forks, Now just needed to make something to move the forks back and forth, Simple Right?, Made a plate to serve as the new top to the tower, Cut a couple of L shaped gagets to move the forks, drill and tap them to except the shift rods we use already, the L gagets fit into the shift forks through a couple slots in the top plate, I welded a plate between the two slots to help with alinement and bent a channel out of alum to aline the sides,, then made some guides for the shift rods, Did I lose you yet, ( Hell I lost myself already), But here's the pics hopefully they help, And Yes it WORKS:D after two days of trial and error:rolleyes: 102_0654.jpg 102_0656.jpg 102_0658.jpg 102_0658.jpg 102_0659.jpg 102_0660.jpg 102_0661.jpg 102_0663.jpg 102_0664.jpg 102_0666.jpg 102_0672.jpg
