So the steering wheel on my 51 Hudson was in pretty ill shape. I had filled in what cracks I could with epoxy when I first got the car. But it still looked bad. I had searched for steering wheel covers that would fit the diameter but came up with nothing. So a couple months ago me and my daughter were making a cat tower for her cat. As we were wrapping the center post with rope I thought man I could do something like this around my steering wheel. So it came to me that I could use parachute cord to wrap the steering wheel. Here's what I came up with. 1497755236667.jpg 1497755244321.jpg 1497755253516.jpg 1497755262016.jpg 1497755266071.jpg 1497755269902.jpg

Big improvement...and I bet its a lot more comfortable on the hands too. :)
How did you terminate the ends of the cord?

Much better on the hands! To terminate the ends of the cord I just made a loop on the bottom spoke pulled the cord through itself and melted it together.

Melted it with a heat gun or...?

    Nice work, BTW!

It did take patience as the more you wrap the wheel the more the supply portion of cord twists and balls into a knot. So I had to untangle it every few minutes. Took about 75ft of cord. I'm pleased with how it turned out. Trying to figure what to do where the spokes meet the wheel to make it look more finished.
