I wish I could mix Muddy Waters over it like in Better Off Dead. I have watched it and shared it almost as much.
T bucket C cab project waiting its turn. Added another leaf to the back tonight. Improved the stance a bit and should hopefully cure some ride issues, axle u bolts hitting box and weird axle wrap on decel. I need to set the carb and timing properly. Speedo is bag on according to the speed radar sign! Odometer quit for some reason though. Stuck at 99.9 miles.? Thanks for the positive comments guys, it's been a long haul, and it ain't over yet. Still have to get the side windows, door latches, carpets, seats and sound proofing done.
Rear nerf bar please Although I have a macrame basket full of positive comments about the awesomeness of seeing the truck roll out. I either loved the door opening or seeing the Plymouth badge on the back of the cab the most. I wasn’t prepared for how “hot rod” the motor sounds I thought it would be much more subdued. Did I miss something with a cam install?
It's got a small upgrade profile reground cam. The sound comes from a really open exhaust and a very poor tune at the moment. I am going to spend this evening getting timing, carb etc set with a vacuum gauge. I did a very crude job the other day to just drive it. It burnt 8 gallons of fuel to run about 20 miles. Lol
The 99.9 mile odometer my be the new Climate Change model. I guess you forgot to hook the shutoff wire to the ignition switch. You can get more milage credits by recycling the rest of your cars and turning off the heat, lights, and AC in your home.
I guess it keeps me from wondering how much fuel it burn per mile. This truck it mildly haunted , if it doesn't like something it fights tooth and nail. If it's original parts or good upgrades it goes easy.
Well it broke already! Lol! Popped an oil line to the remote filter. Not really in love with that set up so I might try and come up with a better adapter. I did get the door cards and kick mounted though.
Happy Canada day! Folks! I've been slacking . Too hot last few days. Oil,lines fixed then I melted the starter. Got a new one yesterday. Might ge it installed today and get back at tuning and getting shit sorted.
I'm impressed with how well many of your modifications to the original plan have worked out. A few issues are to be expected. It is good to be in this phase of the build.
Yeah I actually enjoy the trouble shooting during the first year on the road posts about as much as the fabrication posts. Lots to learn either way
Ha! I wish. I did get to take it on our Father's Day cruise and took the wife for a ride in it. She liked it and said the seat is comfy. That there is a huge win! She is very supportive but it's not really her thing.
Set the timing to 11 BTDC instead of 25! It runs 127% better. It will actually do a burn out! Then my buddy Steve showed up and we drank beer all afternoon.....
I’d say your day was a success then! If it’s going to get no miles per gallon it’d better be able to smoke the tires!
A friend here had a '57 GMC pickup with a blown big block. He ran out of gas returning to his shop after filling up with aviation fuel at the airport, about 3 miles. He took a 55 gallon barrel of it to Hot August Nights just to drive to the different venues.
Wonder why that was---that seems completely opposite from what I would have thought. I wonder what the advance in the distributor is like and how fast it comes in. More initial timing typically leads to more down low power---to a point, because it can be very prone to detonation if the distributor timing isn't limited. Either way, congrats on making it better.
@guitarguy The distributor seems to be damaged in some way. Fooling with it yesterday and the rotor flops back and forth an 1/8th of a turn. . I have a dodge Mallory dual point I am going to try and fit tonight.
Rebuilt the tach drive distributor I had on last night. Seems ok. The rotor is really soft and flops back and forth a bit. I think when it gets warm the problem gets worse. Going to try it tonight. I think I have the engine noise tracked down to bent pushrod and maybe a couple of sticking intake valves. Not sure why they stick. The hot heads push rods seem to be a little large for the holes in the heads.
Sweating my balls off in the shop tonight. Setting timing, fix ripped plug boot(damn msd junk) and setting carb a bit more. Vids maybe . There is a cruise tomorrow in Nanaimo and another one here in Parksville on Saturday. It needs fixed.
