What's the old saying, "Good parts aren't cheap and cheap parts aren't good." I've learned the hard way, more than once, that the lowest price isn't always the lowest cost. I've learned to wait to do a project until I can afford to do it right.

I've used only two types of axles in all my builds, genuine '32 Ford heavy and Chassis Engineering forged 4". As others have stated chassis components should be the highest quality available, your life may depend on them. Chassis Engineering is in West Branch Iowa.

The plain one isn't that spendy direct from them. I bought one that one of their vendors had hauled around as a display unit for 200 off Ebay a couple of years ago. The one I have is seriously beefy and should hold up to anything.
To the OP, if you have a big Goodguys or NSRA event coming up in your area hit the vendors area around noon on Sunday with cash green money in your pocket as those vendors are usually thinking about what they don't want to load and you can usually cut a pretty good deal. Most have show discounts anyhow.

higher price does not always mean better! If you buy it with paypal, you have the option of returning it if not satisfied. I used a Lucky 7 and tube axle on my 1939 coupe, worked and drove fine. And nothing wrong with a casting, if done right.

Lucky 7 is one thing but a 114 buck new aftermarket axle that is also drilled is going to be a bit suspect.
The axle in question does have the same hole pattern drilled in it that Helix do. http://www.helixsuspension.com/cata.../4-Dropped-and-Drilled-Solid-Axle---46-Length I'd almost bet that if he orders the axle it will come postmarked Portland Oregon rather than Corona Ca.

You can't return it when it breaks 3 years and 20,000 miles down the road...

I've wondered about the quality of the dropped f-1 axles from speedway with tube center and forged ends as well.

    Hoffman stuff is great.........
    To fill a landfill with!

I have bought some dress up stuff from them before I knew who they were, some of it was OK, some was poor knock offs. With the quality, or should I say lack of consistent quality of the dress up stuff, no way I'd trust ANYTHING they sell in a place where my or others safety would be in doubt. I like to go down the road thinking about where I'm going, not worrying if my axles or suspension is going to break and kill me or somebody else!

I clicked on The Bro speed "other items" link and it is exactly the same as Hoffman group back door vendors in the past.

I don't know a lot about anything but..........
It would cost $100 just to drill the lightening holes
and machine the king pin and wishbone holes in a "GOOD" axle!

    Wow a lot of bashing.
I was looking to get help on a leaking master cylninder from on a complete front end kit I got from Brospeed 6 months ago. Called Sae-Speed they answered the phone and are sending me a new Master cylinder no questions asked. I was impressed.
The kit looked like quality parts and I'm sure the same imported stuff I'd get from Summit, or Oreilly's

Too bad you think the imported parts from O’reilly are the parts to measure up to.
