Yes, I agree with rustynewyorker. I've been looking at some ads on Craigslist and ebay recently for '46-'48 Mopars, and actually have seen a few complete running coupes for under $2K. Shouldn't take much to hop em up, lower em, put on skirts, spinners, etc.

I traded a 47 poncho fast back that I picked up for 675.00 for another 49 new
yorker. some wheel cylinder rebuild kits, brake fluid, a brake line, and alot of grinding to remove the quarter inch of "skim coat" the P.O. put on there for no reason, a little epoxy primer and a 20.00 "tiujana interior" (some falsa blankets on the seats. it had a couple tears. " and I'm cruising and pulling my 58 metzendorf camper for under a grand. Oh yeah, and the fulton visor that "fell off" my 50 plymouth before I had to hand it over to my ex wife in the divorce.

my buddy was in need of cash and offered me his 53 plymouth for $1600, even though i didn;t really want it, i bought it to help him out kinda. i couln't get into it, no matter how hard i tried to. i found a 57 chevy wagon for sale for $3500 that ran and drove very well, v8 auto, straight but a little rusty. long story short, i traded the plymouth for the chevy. i just did all new wiring, white wall tires (craigslist score of course) and a fuel pump to it and i'm in the whole ball of wax about 2k.

I am gathering parts to build a 30 Chevy T-bucket style car. So far I've got about $1K wrapped up into it. I currently have a titled cowl with an original VIN tag, 1930 Plates, a 31 Chevy grill shell and radiator (thanks to a member here), a Ford 9 inch with matched drive line and disc brakes, 40 Ford brakes (also thanks to a member), a complete front dropped axle, spindles and steering components from VapHead, 36 Ford bones and wide 5 wheels with decent whitewalls, a Chevy 250 that "ran when pulled" as they all do, a TH350 trans, and a stockpile of Chevy flywheels and drive lines to mate it all together. Now all I need to do is build the frame and the tub for the body.

probably got close to $2500 bucks in it including the price of the car. fresh gas, charged the battery and it fired right up after sittin a few years. just put bags in the back and now on to the body. its fun to drive and gets a thumbs up by people wherever it goes haha.

My younger brother bought this in July 2007 for $1600 and drove it 100 miles home. I put tires on it since the wide whites were dry rotted, changed the oil and he drove it to school in Flint, Michigan... He drove it at the Woodward Dream Cruise and back and forth from Pittsburgh to Detroit about six times... We eventually put on a one wire alternator, a brake line and a wheel cylinder and a gauge pod... After about 6000 miles he sold it to my older brother with an investment of less than 2 g's....

The best part is that it's almost all original except for a repaint.... Only 55K miles on it or so... It's ugly, but cheaper than a used Chevy Cavalier.

$2k. Found on ebay. Guy listed it with real shitty pics. Bought it sight unseen figuring Id throw him his $40 listing fee if it was a shitbox. Well it wasnt to say the least.

70k orig. miles. My daily driver rain or shine and eventually snow when that time of year comes around again.

    Need to lower it now.

  24. This is an old thread but I was wondering if anyone is still building low budget rods?

With the current economy, it still blows my mind to see folks spending more on a paint job than some cats spend on the entire rod.

What low budget rods are being built in 2012?

I was just offered a 63 Buick Skylark Convertible that is nearly rust free for $2500. It is a running car with the 215 aluminum V8, but does need the top replaced. I'm still trying to decide if I should buy it.
