I had the '26 out this morning. Got to the first corner and my turn signals aren't working. Great! No turn signal. no hazards. Fuse is good. But when I turn on the hazards and hit the brake, all the turn lights flash. Okay, so the turn signal switch has fallen apart inside. AGAIN. I have 30K miles on this car now, and I have replaced that switch twice now. The switch is the one from Speedway. Chrome plastic, looks cheap and apparently is! I have been searching, but that is the only switch I can find. Seems all the vendors are selling the same piece of crap. Can anyone point me towards a good quality turn signal switch?
If your in a rural area there are probably a bunch of those add on turn signal switches in old trucks just waiting to be put back to work Most likely will need a bit of cleaning on the contracts, but guaranteed to be built a whole lot better than the crap being sold now!
Looks like the market has thinned down to just a couple choices. This shows 2 different styles, in 6V and 12 v. https://vintageautogarage.com/electrical/turn-signals/ This has a bunch of specific ones and the usual universal. https://www.classicindustries.com/s...id=560ab3dac84d12e6d3c6d51cd67058fa&gclsrc=3p Universal https://www.classicindustries.com/shop/search/?q=Turn Signal Switch universal different https://watsons-streetworks.com/product/self-canceling-turn-signal-kits/ https://www.grote.com/other/turn-signal-switches/universal-turn-signal-switch/ https://www.vehiclesafetymfg.com/universal-heavy-duty-turn-signal-switches-by-vsm.php looks uncomfortably familiar https://petersonlightsandharnesses.com/product/switch-ts-7-wire/ another possible source, trucker parts. https://www.bigrigchromeshop.com/turn-signal-switches-accessories.html
It's obvious that you've lost the turn power from the flasher. The business of all turn lights coming on when you hit the brakes with the hazard switch turned on is normal. So before you throw another switch at it, I'd disassemble the one you have and see if repair is possible. It's probably a design flaw, you may be able to address it.
You have to be careful with old heavy truck turn signal switches. Most were setup for lamps and won't allow the brake switch to override the turn signal on one side.
I have this one. The body is die cast metal. It works very well, since 2018, when my look alike plastic one fell apart. https://www.ebay.com/itm/301528699100
There was a 3 button switch made for over the road trucks we used, came 4 or 7 wire. Push L. button or R. for turns, middle canceled, push L & R for 4 ways. Box was like 3''x3'' & mounted up under lip of dash panel if you wanted to hide it. Probably Signal-stat or Yankee.
I used a United Pacific model on my dune buggy, metal case, light on the end lights up when blinking. No issues. Summit sells them
Was it the standard Cheapo turn signal switch ? https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedway-Standard-Turn-Signal-Switch,7012.html or the "Heavy Duty" cheapo turn signal switch, that is less money than the standard version ? https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedway-Heavy-Duty-Turn-Signal-Switch,30566.html Both appear to be held together by screws, open it up and see what is inside. If you are lucky, with the other broken ones, you have enough pieces to fix it.
Man, this is no sh*t! Was doing just this a couple hours ago- I have the original of a certain switch, and TWO bullshit reproductions disassembled on my bench. Trying to end up with one switch that kinda works.
Exact one I'm running. Only I got mine from the goodspeed place I mentioned because they're local lol
I was with a Bud , on the Harley , a woman was giving hand signals . I guess my Buddy didn’t see her well almost bust her in da azz. I ask him “ didn’t you see her ? “ He answered only Damn thing that I knew for sure was she had the window down ! Never seen a signal one . I’m like WTH !!!
Because many of the truck switches are setup for seperate lamps for turn signals and brakes. There is no provision inside the switch to deal with brake lights like there is on a passenger car turn signal switch. On a car the brake and turn signal share one filament of an 1157 bulb.
yes the switch you want has 9 wires, the 7 wire switch does not turn the brake light off on the side you want flashing. The best switches are the old Signal Stat switches. I have one in my International for 45 years and still going strong. the switch in my Model A is a 40's switch from a Chevy, been working for 11 years in that car.
