I can appreciate that answer. However, there is one question that you need to answer; what do YOU want? Like not, "oh, one of those would be cool, but.." No, seriously. What cars speak to you? In your heart of hearts, what year, make, model, body style, etc. is it that you want?

Once you can answer that, you should start there.

If there is one thing that my 61 Olds project taught me, it was to stop screwing around with cars that aren't on my bucket list. I'm not a pro builder, and I'm not churning a new build out every 6-9 months. It's going to be every 4-5 years if I'm lucky. It is a massive investment of time and money, and if your heart is not in it, and you don't see the vision at the end, it is going to be miserable getting through that project. Life is short bro, get what you want.

**well I already have the truck so now I just have to find the right one :) **

**yeah, ive noticed a few of those and they do look cool**

Yup, great point. And to truthfully answer, I have seen cars from all of the big three that I think are cool. I used to be super die hard mopar but in the past few years I've opened up my mind a bit to say, I'm not just a mopar guy, I'm a cool old car guy. I'll know it when I see it :)

Before an Up too about the mid 60's,speed parts* for most V8s were about the same for Cady,Olds,Fords,Study,an so on, but by then Chevys had be come the go too engine and that made SBC speedparts become vary common*,more then all the others=they were cheeper, plus more used out there too get or trade. That only matters if you were building HP.
Customs were still,do what you liked or had to make cool=Looks counted, not really HP as much. Your own art mattered. No so much witch car you started with.
Seems sad to me,showing my age,the kids now have nothing but a lot of cars, that all cast the same shadow from all views. :(:confused:o_O

The cheapest actual Hamb Friendly hot rod build if you don't need a back seat or family friendly is going to be a bobber truck type truck. 35/37 or so truck cab, Either modified stock frame or a Boling Bothers frame isn't that spendy, Early Ford cross leaf front suspension, Actual hot rod acceptable grill shell and not a laid back rat rod grill. engine of choice with matching trans and rear axle of choice. A proper bed made out of sheet metal bent up on a brake and a simple interior. Decent scrounging should turn out a presentable truck for under 5K.

  11. Unless you can trust that the brake system is good, that's a place (maybe the first) to start. Then are good stock brake parts available? Or do a front disc brake swap? If you're going to do discs, then you might have to do suspension changes. A Falcon or Comet can be an inexpensive way to go.

Cheap leads to excuses for not having what you really want. Making excuses is dumb.

Keep your eye on the prize and build what you want.

Now if affordable good stuff is the question?

We're at a great place currently where the inventory is building and Model A's are getting more plentiful. A Roadsters are and have always been cool. Just ask anyone.....

If there's one thing time has taught me, it's that knowledge is a fundamental tool. If you don't know much about this or that, speedsters, hot rods, trucks. etc... It's important to learn as much as possible and familiarize yourself with market prices.
Then you'll be better prepared! HAMB is one of the best schools.
And often there are things that money can't buy all at once. You might need to know the seller and show your love for these cars, and that way they might give you a good deal.

Boy aint that the truth. Cheap isn't always better in the long run for sure. Cheap doesnt always get you where you want to go. And you are correct, the inventory seems to be building as more people become interested in muscle cars, trucks, 90's imports, etc.

Find something you like that is running and driving. Rebuilding big pieces gets expensive. Replace, repair and rebuild as needed .

Buying into some odd ball car that's not very desirable is a good way to get $10,000 or more into a car worth $5000 you can't find all the parts for
That most will not think much of .

Best to be the guy buying it right after someone else sunk to much into it .

Best to be patient and let a deal find you .

I passed on a cool Studebaker a while back . It was a OK deal but then I thought about all the time id spend getting it right and how that time would be better spent on other projects worth 5 times as much and 10 times cooler and realized even if the car was free I had no time for it vs the other stuff I really want to get done before I'm to old.

In hind site I could have bought it and flipped it and made a few grand but it was just more work and time I did not have.

My advice is find what you really want pay a bit extra and then work OT if needed to pay of any loan you needed to get the extra money and enjoy the car while you kids are still kids and make the wife happy now. Make changes to to make it yours and then look for a project for just you.
