My daily is a $1600 Isuzu Rodeo that is so full of shoebox ford parts and tools that, and I swear this is true, I've been hailed by a carfull of Mexican laborers and asked where the home depot is!:confused::D

I can't open the driver's door or the tailgate anymore due to 'accident' damage, but the damn thing has been hauling me to work and getting Ford parts for the last year now with no problems, knock on wood. Plus it's a rolling storage shed, which is really nice, but its so full nobody but the driver can ride in it!

So who else has a crap daily to support their hot rod habit?!?

My daily is a '94 Buick LeSabre 4 dr. Dark green in color. I was lucky and got it for $1,800 from my boss. He kept it in perfect running order and it only had 96,000 miles on it when I got it 1 1/2 years ago.

It has a cracked left front fender (they are fiberglass!) that I got when some kids hit it and I have duct tape to keep the crack covered (gives it the NASCAR look), a broken right mirror, various parking lot dents and scratched and faded paint. It gets washed when it rains. However, I keep it in perfect running order and change fluids and tune it up regular. So, it looks like crap, but that's what keeps the bad guys from messing with it! Also, I never worry in traffic because people in nice cars are scared of cars that look like the owners aren't affraid to "trade paint".:D

  6. $2500 EB Falcon on gas. Aussies would know what it is apart from FUCKING CHEAP for a car with 12 months rego, gas, no damage and with no problems.

around 95 or 96 I bought a 72 Datsun 510 wagon for 500 bucks, put a 5 speed in it and drove it for 4 years or so then sold it for $1500.00. around 1998 I bought my 76 Volvo for $500.00 and have put another 2500.00 in it repairing things when they wear out. it looks like crap but I drive this thing everywhere. it is very dependable.

    Does a 250.00 91 Mazda 626 count?
The tires cost me more than the car and we have put 20K+ on it in the past year.

I have a 89 gmc jimmy that I got for $300 its body is so rusted out that on the bottom half of the damm thing I can put my fist threw the thing from front to back. Lets me get steel and parts for my 39 ford and my 59 chevy apache so its mot all that bad!

  11. This spring I finally parted with my 91 AWD Caravan that I paid $200.00 for 4 years ago. Now I have a 99 Dodge 1/2 ton bright yellow!!! My 57 is also yellow....Today I bought a car trailer to haul behind the truck. No excuses for leaving cars in the bush now.

  12. I had a $500 85' S10 for a year that was my shop truck, then my only vehicle. I put a couple hundred over the year as it needed it and drove the wheels off of it until the bed rusted out so bad you couldn't open the tailgate without lifting on a corner. Then I sold it for $500.

My new truck came from my dad. The price is free. I had to do all new brakes on it and a few other things. 2001 Explorer Sport. Its full pimp compared to the S10, but can't haul nearly as much stuff.

  13. About 8 years ago I bought an 88 VW Fox 2 door sedan at an auction for $20. Yep 2 saw bucks, (before scrap went nuts.) Dropped a battery in it and drove it home, gave it a good bath, changed the oil put used tires on back because the ones on it were bald. I drove that little car everywhere for nearly 7 years and never did a thing but put gass in it. A while back the starter went out; now it helps hold up a sky scraper in China somewhere. I replaced it with a like new $500 Camry wagon with 78K on the clock from an estate sale. So what did I win?

AHAHAHAHA! I knew you would answer this thread. Your car is the gangstermobile.

here was mine just after some dumb chick ran a red light in her f150 and creamed me. It was a 93 corolla with 50k miles, that i got cheap from an old lady. her kids didn't let her drive it anymore because she had a fender bender and set off the airbag. (which I never got around to fixing)
I had put 70k miles in less than 3 years! I was using it to commute back and forth for college, and it was great on gas...wish I still had it now!

I ride a 50cc motorbike to work when its not too wet!
    It´ll hit 55mph - given enough road.

I am a bit odd though.

lol! i bet its fathack! he drives this crappy green dodge dart! i cant belive theres still one of them on the road today!

  23. I picked up this wagon with a hole in the piston for $250...
then I dropped a turbo motor out of a 940 into it and robbed some 25mm sways, lowering springs and the wheels from a parts car.

10 psi, rear wheel drive, and a five speed = fun cheap daily!

(picture makes it look gasser 'cause it was taken between motors!)

Current one is a 900 dollar '89 Dodge van that the GF drives. I'm telecommuting, so I walk to the front room.
The best was an 85 Ram 50. It started out as a parts store delivery truck, then was handed down to a machine shop. 3 accidents and 250k later my friend ended up with it. It broke a ball joint in accident number 4, and he gave it to me with the parts to fix it. I fixed it and drove it another 100k. I could leave it open anywhere, no problem. It was also the newest car I owned (1991).

This is my daily driver, it's a '79 Dodge 100 short bed, slant six, with a 3 on the tree.
I bought it from a friend over in Salmon, Idaho for a $1000.00 bucks.
I drove it from Salmon (Montana side) over to Sand Hallow, Idaho (Oregon side) to attend Tony Farnetti's "The Traditional Trash Run" then drove it home to Blaine, Ohio
The best gas mileage I got was 24.9 MPG not to bad!

Damn. I thought I was taking a big step down when I sold my Bullitt and spent $4k on a 10 year old truck. I just found cheaper ways to get stuff done on the hot rod instead of driving around smelling cat piss.

  30. For a while I drove an '84 Skylark. It was free. I spent about $10 on brake lines and bled it out and drove it around until I got a ticket for being 4 months overdue on the inspection.

I replaced that with a 1989 Dodge Ramcharger that I paid $50 for. One water pump and a few belts - and a tranny fluid and filter - and I put about 4000 miles on it. It got all of 13 MPG or so out of the 360.

By chance I went to an auction and got the Suburban I have now for $525. Odometer reading 56,700, claimed original. An ex-school vehicle that had been in storage for a year or two, the guy had bought it for the TBI 350 and 700R4 to put them in a rod, then said to heck with it and put it in this auction. Which I was only at to check out a "37 Chevy parts car" that turned out to be a '41 4dr that had about every good part stripped off it. So I put the Ramcharger in the paper and sold it for $400.

I've put almost 40,000 miles on that Suburban, I've had it as far away as New Jersey, Albany, and Niagara Falls, towed trailers, towed cars, run around loaded full of crap in the back, sideswiped a concrete barrier on the interstate, just absoloutely beaten the shit out of it - and all I do is keep the trans full and the oil changed. It did get all new brakes, a new gas tank, a new sender, and some used tires, but that's about it. Rusty as all hell, for a while I ran it around painted with a roller with Rust-X paint. In fact it was so rotted I discovered the tailgate originally on it was only held in place by the window on it. Replaced that with a set of freebie barn doors.

To replace that truck I have a diesel Suburban I paid $200 for at an auction. The auction people screwed up and transposed pictures of it and a second one that was a 4x4 gasser; when I told them about it they swapped pictures and cancelled the bids.. so I got it cheap. 98K, needed a transmission. To fix that I bought still a third Suburban on eBay with a dead motor and about 10K on the diesel 700R4 trans for $300, spent the winter stripping it, then scrapped it - I got $425 for the scrap - so I have about $75 in this truck, and it pretty much just needs to be put together. It came with about 3/4 tank of diesel and 4 brand new 16 inch truck tires on it, too, I think just one of those tires costs about what I paid for the truck.

In the process of stripping the trans donor, the power window doors, better fenders, hood, vent, and lower rear quarters all went on the gasser to replace it's crappy body parts. About all I didn't swap were the rear doors - mine were better. So I repainted around the windows and the upper quarters to match. I even put some of the valence that goes under the rear doors on this truck, so maybe I could finally latch them on the bottom. Except for the lack of rockers, it doesn't look half bad now.

So that's 5 vehicles in all with a total purchase price of $1,075. A resale total of $825 - and if I count what the '84 Skylark finally brought when I scrapped it, I'm ahead by about $50. Beaters, all, but I have no complaints. The 16 MPG is getting a little frustrating, but I don't know that I'm going to be better off with the diesel, it may not get enough better MPG to be worth the difference in fuel price.
