Hey everyone, I picked up the 56 Wagon and let the 80 Vette go this morning at 7 o'clock. Drove the wagon home at 70 MPH and it ran great. Did some cleaning up, got the insurance switched over and it is ready to go. As you can see it needs the cosmetics but the mechanics as far as driving seem to be fine. I want to get the hood painted white soon and see if I can at least clean the paint up somewhat but not sure if much can be done. Here are some shots from about 20 minutes ago.
Well thats pretty cool. I'd just wax the hell out of it to give it some protection from the elements until I was ready to deal with the rust issues. A set of wheels and a different steering wheel and you can tell everyone its an old survivor car/beater. cruise and grin. The grinning is the important part its pretty hard to look tough in an old beat up wagon. Don't know what kind of a deal you made but it looks like a good starting place for a neat old ride.
I have the original steering wheel, but I want to get the old metal flake wheel for it. Always wanted one of those. If anyone has a green or teal flake wheel for sale, I would be interested.
OH HEY A NOMAD! thats what you are going to hear! ------- it looks really good! - i like those 4 door wagons! i think a white steering wheel either a aftermarket or a 55-56 belair maybe a 60 chev wheel 2 toned green/white. a set of vintage light gray spoked torque thrust wheels would look good too!
Kerry, got my green flake wheel from Mike(sidevalve) at The Hot Rod Company. He is an Alliance Vendor here on the HAMB. And great to deal with, I might add.
I am going to paint the hood white soon just to get it to match. Kind of stands out a bit too much at the moment.
Sweet ride bro! Welcome to the Long Roof Club. For safety, upgrade brakes with a dual master cylinder, and at the least front disc's. Check out my pictures in my Profile, and PM with any Q's.
I would like to upgrade to disc's in the front. Any idea how much that would run ?? I am no mechanic so I would have to job it out unless some local Hamb'r wanted to make some side $$$$ Will be a while before I do it however.........But would like to know about how much it would run me.
You need this kit from Danchuk http://www.danchuk.com/11_01_disc_brake_conv_kit.html#2216 Uses the standard spindle and takes less than a morning to fit. If you are not that up on the mechanical side fo things get a knowledgable friend to check it over before you go on your maiden voyage and definatley upgrade to the dual master cylinder. Really nice car you have there, I second the just wax it and run it vote. And get a metalic green wheel! P.
cool wagon! check out www.chevytalk.com the guy there can tell and show you the pro' and con's of the different disc conversions. some a pretty eye opening!
Glad you took our advice on the trade. Ride looks good and it has a lot of potential. I always liked the body lines on the 56 but dude that truck steering wheel has got to go------------------------------------------Crankshafts-------lots of em>>>>.
