I am not a fan of T birds at all , but when this 56 came into the shop I had to take a closer look.

Worked over strong running 312 Y block with 3 94s , custom headers , dual coils , dechromed , reworked bumpers and exhaust , merc wagon ? tail lights, painted sports car wires with working knock offs ,pinstriped fan shroud ,there is a dashplaque , for wining some 1957 sports car concourse. We rebuilt the carbs , and did the brakes cleaned it up and gave it a tuneup , Enjoy the pics.

  13. I wonder if this was a "weekend warrior" racer? The knock-off wheels, the carbs, the three coils.... Also, I love the use of the mercury (I think) tail lights.

Looks like a old school sleeper. I wish all cars could stay that cool. How did it run?

I think you might be stepping on your **** here. those birds with the factory stick, were factory hot rods that never got the respect then or now. if it was a 55 ford more door in black primer you'd be screaming "****ing cool man!"
I had a friend that built a 55 bird in 59 and it had very few peers at the time it was the only car I'd ever seen that could get daylight under the front wheels on the 1-2 shift. I was almost as impressed with that car as I was with with his younger sister with sweet little ***! [IMG]

That thing is sweet. I've lusted after one for many years. I wouldn't change much.

I'd get the owner to check the knock offs before it leaves. You know you are responsible for the rest of it's life if they ever come off. [IMG]

That is sweet, I for one love those first gen T'birds, if they had only kept to the plan rather then turning into luxo barges.....

the car was finished today, cleaned up and taken for a test drive , the mechanic that was working on it said he could't believe how fast it was , the owner will be keeping it just the way it is, all we did was restore or replace what was broken or worn , it ran like **** when it drove in off the trailer , runs very strong now. This one will be saved.

    I believe the Bird is a 1956......

    I had a 1956 T-Bird back in the early 70's
( of course it was Black with Red interior ) and had red rims.

They were fairly fast for their day. I sold mine....because there is no room in them for a 6 foot 2 and 1/2 inch overweight Fat man. [IMG] [IMG]

I agree that they are neat and I for 1 am glad this one has survived as a cool ride, not some over restored trailer queen.

  30. Cool!

'55 birds were 6 volt systems... had no continental kit, no wind wings and no cowl vents.

They added all that stuff to the '56.

Seems as though they took the continental kit off that one (cool modification!)...

    Thanks for sharing!
    Sam.
