Common sense goes a long way, as does experience. In 37 years, with multiple cars I don't remember having had a blow out. I NEVER run recaps/ retreads. ( post 63 looks like a old recapped snow tyre, generally lower speed rating, but I may be wrong). I only run fabric belts as we drive on metal/ stone/gravel roads. Generally check pressures every month to six weeks or visually every couple. As some one once said - Common sense is not all that common!

  2. The chunk flew off when I was doing 50 MPH I likely couldn't find it! I owned ad drove semi trucks for many decades. We would run bias ply tires until the became smooth as a gut. Then we would regroove them with a hot regrooving tool from JC Whitney and run them some more miles.

  3. I reciently came up with some 16 inch 6 lug split rims. I mounted some old 14 ply bias tires on them and put them on my tilt top trailer. Those tires have a 3750 single load weight rating. They have 80 lbs of air pressure in each tire. ought to handle moving a backhoe.

  4. Post 63 looks to me to be a radial. I commonly run aged bias ply. aged radials don't last very long. if you change the direction of rotation of a radial it will quickly fail. if you let a radial set flat for a few days it will quickly fail. Radial tires ride and handle better than bias ply.
