Hi all, been lurking for years, the old Quarter Midget thread smoked me out, I'll add some pictures from the Hacienda track in LV. My running car is a 61 Ford Sunliner, bought it off of craigslist being sold for parts. Figure I saved it from the shredder. Put rockers, rear quarters, outer wheel wells and rear floor pan in it. Rebuilt the drive train put upholstery bought off the internet on the seats a new top from fleabay and drive the **** out of it. Not really a hot rod but not a restoration either. Got a few other cars waiting their turn, some Hamb friendly some not. Mike
Hey Cortney my car is from Denver that's why all the the rust repair. It sat since 1978 I got it running 2 years ago. The maiden voyage was from Las Vegas to the Cruise Above the Clouds car show in Woodland Park and Cripple Creek. The pics are Independence p*** on the way home and top down cruising the back roads outside Cripple Creek. Mike
Welcome from Texas. Your pics made me homesick..take me home please. The Cripple Creek/ Woodland Park car show is my number one item on my bucket list when I get my '57 2 dr Custom done. I'm from Colorado Springs, and when I first got the '57 it made nightly trips "up the hill" to Cripple Creek with the old six rolling around the curves and pushin' smoke all the way! I use to try to make the 42 mile trip in 40 minutes...I'm anxious to see how the new suspension with R & P, and some hp under the hood does on that run. The old red and white rust bucket could be seen 5-7 nights a week parked on Bennett street in '03. Love your car by the way...can't believe it was headed for the crusher..what were they thinking??
welcome. That is nice looking driver. It always make you feel good to save an old friend from the chinese
Welcome Mike, I also have a weak spot for vintage quarter midgets... Please feel free to post as many pictures as you want !!!! What year(s) did you race ? By the way, your convertable is awesome, nice save and your bodywork talent looks great. Sounds like a neat show and the scenery is out-standing. Thanks for posting.
I raced from 1960 to around 64, then my dad left and that ended the racing career. Shortly after some guy backs up to my moms house and told her my dad said for him to come get the race cars and triple deck trailer, guy stole them, dad never said to pick them up. Some reason my car wasn't on the trailer and my dad hung onto it for 45 years. After he p***ed away I drug it out of his ba*****t and still have it. The convertible patched up pretty well, most of the paint is original, the replacement panels got rattle canned with the original color. The body needs it's bumps and bruises smoothed out but I can't get myself to stop driving it to work on it, plus I'm afraid I would just sand it, get it ugly and that is how it would stay. Mike
Howdy from the west coast of Florida. You really did a great thing saving that beautiful looking ride. Jimbo
