Apparently the thread I started yesterday got a bit OT...and admittedly I didn't take time to start here. Well here ya go...

I have been turning wrenches since I was knee high to a june bug, and that wasn't yesterday. I do all my own work. I take that back. Mounting tires, block machine work, and seat upholstery are left to those with tools I don't own.

Got my first car when I was 13 and I've still got it. Haven't made any updates there in years. If you're into DIY EFI, I'd suggest either MegaSquirt or www.dynamicefi.com. The latter is based on a GM TBI controller, but with wicked cool upgrades.

These days I spend more time with family and less time polishing cars. A friend traded me a 53 Chevy 3100 and I set off on a new quest. Namely, making the truck roadworthy while maintaining its "character." It's ironic how popular the old truck has been. It seems that everyone, and I mean everyone, used to have a grandpa (ok, great great grandpa) with a 3100 Chevy. Granddaddy's truck didn't have a chrome grill, nor a polished tuned port LT1, and neither will mine.

What I've come to realize is that it is harder than you might imagine to "fix" something without applying fresh paint to cover your tracks. Thanks to those who shared ways to get rid of shiny on new parts. I expect I'll try a couple of those with future repairs.

As for the patina crowd and the rat rodders...cheers for making old cars that don't necessary shine cool again. There is a dwindling number of people who can even recognize a carb float, let alone set one. Respect for cars and the people who build them is a good thing...even for the slacker with a 40 Ford powered by a 350 TPI. LOL
