Chevelle rear suspension in your rod Pic request

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tiny, Dec 10, 2008.

  1. I have a Chevelle rear suspension available for my next build. I would like to see how some of you have installed it. It will be going in a 20's Dodge Bros frame but most early frames are basically the same no matter what the make. So let the picture show begin.

I am doing the same thing with my model A more or less. I did not mock it up yet to see if the lower control arm/shock mounts need to be moved inward or not yet. I dont plan to use the stock control arms and plan on using a home made set that may or may not be longer than the stockers. I have yet to get my car far enough to decide for the rear Z amount in my frame to determine whether the spring buckets will go on top of the frame which requires alot of Z or in front/behind the axle tubes to cut down on the Z (but then they might be visible to drivers which kinda ****s if your car sits up at all.

    Just some food for thought.

Its not too hard to run a triangulated 4 link in these cars and its a good cheap set up.

If you can wait until Tech Month, I'll post how I put one under my 46 Ford.

I've posted these before, so I wont make you wait for next week to get you started thinking.:p

I used a 8.2" 10 bolt with 3.08s out of a 70's coup deville. I also used the stock arms with a rear sway bar also.
Here is the xmember for the upper links. I pushed it as far back as I could to make room for the rear seat

And here is the lower mounts, there is also another bracket for the inner side to box around the link

Like this, sorry for the crummy pic

I've yet to drive it, but the total pinion angle change from full extension to full drop is about 5 deg total.

  5. Nice pics thanks. Anyone use the factory crossmember? On my dodge frame it kicks up pretty high in the rear like the Olds frame I want to use. I'm thinking I may be able to just trim to fit the stock Olds piece to fit in the Dodge Bros frame. Thoughts Concerns?

I used the entire crossmember. Depends on how wide the frame is you want to adapt it to.

I also have one I want to put under my pontiac, it would solve a lot of problems for me! But some installed pics would really help!
