Technical question. Are the dowel pins for locating the Chev. bell housing to a block, in alignment horz. with the centerline of the crankshaft? I'm trying to build an adapter to mate a Chev auto trans to a non GM engine.
No, they are not. The dowel pins are above the centerline of the crankshaft. I thought I had a dimensioned diagram and just looked for it. Did not find it, but found a BOP pattern. The dowel pins on BOP are in the same location as Chevrolet in reference to crank centerline. Ray
Hey Ray Is there a off chance you got any more pics like that? I've thinking about doing a threat with such info, to ease any engine swap. Maybe split it up with engine pattern, gearbox pattern and different bells. Sae bells, the difference between a car or a truck bell housing This would help a lot of people!
Here is the cartoon I use when I put a Powerglide trans behind one of my Ford bullets. The Ford dimensions are for all small block Fords - 221, 255, 260, 289, 302, 351W as well as the 240 / 300 big sixes. Who'd want to run a six?? One of the locations on the left hand side comes real close to overlapping the Chev hole. In that location I use a little cantilever clamp I make up.
p Bryan (spelling?), I got that diagram by googling "chevrolet bell housing bolt pattern". A page came on screen with a lot of diagrams for chevrolet and other applications. I think a Google search for other types, Mopar, Ford, etc. will produce similar results. I am away from home using my iPad as I reply to your post, rather than my home PC which is more versatile for this sort of thing. But hope the info provided is helpful. Ray
Brynk, first name Rasmus. I've been googling stuff and will see what I can start up. Might give you and heads up.
