I am****uming that deck# and serial number are the same? The '65 327 in my 40 has had the decks squared (maybe zero decked). Now when I was coming up I was taught that if you deck one the job was not complete until you socked the numbers back on it. That does not seem to be standard automotive machine work any more. The crank flanges are a good starting place. At least if someone tells you it is a 302 and the flange is 400 you can****ume that he is wrong.
YEAH ,it's a GOOD piece of the puzzle to have when your spending your hard earned Loot for something you WANT to be SURE of its Originality or Lack of.
