I am putting my Chevy 230 together and when I installed the harmonic balancer on, it put the crank pulley to far in to line up with the water pump pulley. I drove the balancer/pulley on til it seated against the crank gear. Is there suppose to be a spacer between the 2 to sit the harmonic balancer out? I don't remember having 1 when I took the engine apart.
    Thanks,
    Lee

I figured out my issue. I have 2 engines one is a 1965 Chevy 230 and the other is a 1966 Studebaker/Chevy 230. Studebaker used Chevy engines the last 2 years. Anyways, I am building the 65' Chevy, and was using the Studebaker water pump pulley. I didn't realize the studebaker had a .300 shorter water pump and the pulley fit accordingly.

Your Stude could also have a 250 water pump on it. The 230 pumps on the Chevy are longer than the 250 pumps are.
