    ok so i bought a 51 chevy p/u without a motor. I ended up finding a great deal on a 235 with 3speed tranny out of a 59 APACHE.

Now the issue i have is that the trucks front cross member had a section cut out were the older front motor mounts go. So the 235 i have is newer and has the motor mounts on the front but on ea side of the motor almost v8 style biscut. I was told that theres universal xmembers that i can use or have someone make one???

The other issue i have is that the bellhousing were the motormounts go is flared upward were in the older housings there straight on mount to the rear xmember, so in that case would i need to get another housing or will the tranny mount be enough???

my motor is gettin done and i need to get all this accomplished before it i get it back. if anyone can post pictures of how or what they did do adapt a newer 235 to one of these trucks that be great and appriciated:)

HERE IS MY FRAME WITH THE PIEICE CUT OUT WERE THE OLDER MOUNTS SHOULD GO.

  2. why not just weld a piece back in? that would seem to be the easiest in my brain. and the most cost effective too...

I wouldn't weld a piece back on. You are just better off using a universal mount.

BudgetBuilt51, just check out any of the partshouses that sell parts for old Chevy trucks such as Brothers truck or car and truck shop in Orange,Ca. They carry bolt on or weld on engine mount brakets. Also check out these sites

well i kinda got the front mounts figured a lil, but then not sure what to do about the rear mounts, my bell housing is flared upward were the mount should go, so the original mounts they sell for the older model inkl 6's wont work. so not sure to get a differnet bell housing.

  10. Is it a car bellhousing rather than the one for the truck?

maybe you can just switch to a older bellhousing. I think that would be your best bet. I often see them for sale on Ebay or try the local car swap. They are around.

weld up the front crossmember on the frame and drill two holes in the bottom of the front engine plate and use the stock 47-54 style motor mount.

Either switch out the bellhousing for a '48-53 truck housing, or make up something to allow you to use the bell you have with that crossmember.

This gives you the factory 3 point mounting system. No need to add a mount under the trans.

Just give Tom Langdon a call. He is good to pick his brain and he can tell you what you need to do.

so my motor is almost back, and i got my front crossmember fixed. So i ordered a brand new front motor mount rubber with plate.

Does anyone have a PIC of how it goes? :/
